And she has had it for a couple of weeks. Im calling the Dr in the morning. So have any of you had this?? Is this part of growing up?? Or what?? Im a little concerned!!! Thanks, H.

Hi H. - my daughter is 14 and this happened to her a couple of years ago - it was a fatty lymphoma which they removed with simple day surgery...sounds kinda the same as yours - let us know.

It could be a swollen lymph gland.

Hey H.,

I would defintely take her to the doctor, but it sounds like a lymph node to me. You have them all over your body and if they get swollen, which it sounds like hers may be, it will be tender to touch. Just like when you get a sore throat or are getting a cold the ones in your neck get swollen and are sore...this is the same thing. Good luck!

Hello H.,
This is most likely the start of her breast development. It should feel almost like a small bean, and be directly under the nipple. It is common for there to be one on one side and not the other and it is common for them to be tender to the touch- sort of like women's breast get tender w/ periods.
Here is a great article for both of you:

Of course, double check w/ your doc- unless you go to North Dallas Pediatrics, the you will get the exact same answer as I am one of their triage RN's :-)
