I got one for my daughter but not until she was 5 months old.. so it was only useful for a few weeks. :(
I was just sort of annoyed because immediately after I bought mine there was some sort of 'recall' that wasn't really a recall. Everyone seemed to be freaked out that I was even using one. They really are ok... basically the company was just covering their butts. People were putting their babies in them and then leaving them sitting unattended... on a table or somewhere you shouldn't be leaving your kid. They now have a warning sticker telling you not to leave your kid unattended or set them on a high surface. (Duh!!!)
I personally thought the bumbo was great to help her when she was learing to eat. She could sit up so much better in her bumbo than her high chair. Plus the bumbo is easy to wipe clean.
Eventually she outgrew her bumbo not because she was physically too big... but rather because she became frustrated with her confinement. She wanted to reach for things and she couldn't while she was 'trapped' in her bumbo. If you can get your hands on one really soon you should get a few months of good use out of it.
Something that may be helpful for you immediately is the boppy. Before I got my bumbo I used my boppy... it was great! I could set my daughter on the floor and put the boppy around her. If she did tip over she had a nice soft landing. Plus when she got big enough to start playing with toys she could reach them easier.
Good luck!!
