Does anyone own a 2008 Buick Enclave crossover and if so, how do you like it? What don't you like? We are considering this car since we need the 3rd row for carpooling. We have a 5 1/2 yr old and 3 yr old and 2 big dogs that are in the car every now and then. We test drove this and the Acadia (which we loved) but liked this more only b/c the leather seats were more plush and comfy than the Acadia and the Enclave drives like my current vehicle so I felt more comfortable in the Enclave. Plus we want captains chairs in the 2nd row which it has but before we really decide, I want to hear from other families. Thanks!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

After going to the NE Auto Show this past weekend, we decided that the crossovers might not be big enough for our needs. With our 2 active kids who are growing like weeds and 2 big dogs, we narrowed it down to the Toyota Sequoia or Nissan Armada. Yes they are huge SUV's and not great on gas but due to the fact we do not drive too far that often, it's not going to break us. We need the room and I won't get a mini van - had one and didn't like it. So now we are looking at reviews for both the Armada and Sequioa and so far are hearing good things about both. Thank you for your responses.

Hi, We got the 2009 Enclave in September, and I love it!! I had a Land Rover before so I get much better gas millage. However I still only average 16.5, most of my driving is in town. I do hear the Nissan Quest gets better in town millage.
We got the captains chair configuration, I got the Enclave with navigation which is necessary for me. The third row is great and my husband sat back there for the test drive. We got a model that was used by the golf turnament so it had 200 miles and we got it for $37,000 instead of $44,000, ours is coco and hasn't had a wash yet, and still looks pretty clean. I plan to wash it this week. My daughter named the car Coco. If there is anything else you want to know write me back. Edmunds has a site with owner reviews. Deb

My husband is a car guru and so I posed your question to him, here's Michael:

I will try to be brief in my response. Since my wife and I are in a similar situation, I have been doing some research on this. We have one child but we do have 2 dogs who take up a lot of room. And since we are moving to VT next year, all wheel drive is a likely option. First and foremost, the Acadia and Enclave are very heavy. The Buick is a bit heavier I believe because of all of the luxury appointments (example: more comfy seats.) That means they consume lots of fuel. The Enclave according to Consumer Reports testing averaged 15mpg city/highway combined. Their second flaw is that they are the worst two models when it comes to reliability within their respective brands, according to Consumer Reports. The Chevy Traverse and Saturn Outlook are their siblings. GM has a habit of marketing the same product as many ways it can to increase market share. If you want much much better reliability, and why wouldn't anyone, try out the Toyota Highlander in normal or Hybrid form. The Hybrid was rated at 24 mpg city/highway combined while the normal engine was rated at 18 mpg combined. Resale value is also infinitely better with Toyota. Other options to consider are the Mazda 9, Hyundai Veracruz, and Honda Pilot. The interiors on the Toyota, Hyundai, and Mazda are just as luxurious as the Buick. I know we don't own one but I hope this info helps.

I have no personal experience with this vehicle, however, I do know someone who has it --for about 7-8 months now--and LOVES it!

I have the GMC Acadia and LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The Buick is just a step above the Acadia, so I am sure you would love it. My husband works for Paul Masse in Woonsocket and they sell both. When I got my Acadia, Buick did not come out with the encave yet or I probably would have opted for that. You have the best of both worlds. The room of a mini van but the style of a truck (although not as big as a truck, easier for parking) If you are in the Woonsocket area go talk to my husband at Paul Masse his name is Gino B ###-###-####. I have 2 daughters and a dog. My Acadia is great with the bucket seats in the middle row, it makes it easy access to the 3rd row. My prior truck was a Envoy XL and this hands down is way better. I drove the Encave when my husband took it home for a demo and it is Fantastic. Good Luck

Hi,

I have the Acadia and LOVE IT!! My husband and I drove both the Buick Enclave and the GMC Acadia. I myself was a loyal Jeep owner however we needed something to fit our 1 year old twins and 1 dog. Jeep didn't have anything big enough. My parents are very loyal (30 years) Buick owners so I leaned towards the Enclave however the Acadia had it hands down with comfort and features. We love the second row captains chairs for the car seats and the third row hasn't been up since I brought it home, the dog entertains the twins nicely back there. I guess I just didn't want to turn into my parents too soon so we went with the Acadia!! *grin*
Take care,
L.
