We are planning to take our 11 & 5 year old to Breckenridge Colorado this summer for vacation. Any suggestions on what to do or not do while we are there? Places to stay? activities that won't cost a fortune.

TIA

We rented a house from vrbo.com 2 summers ago and it was great! About 1 mile from downtown and we had plenty of space. It gave us access to a private pond for fishing. We did peak 8 fun park - loved the alpine slide. We also rented a pontoon in neighboring frisco's lake dillon. Downstairs at Eric's was a favorite restaurant as we ate there twice. Downtown Breckinridge is delightful! Have fun!!

Most every State has a "tourism" website.
Look it up for Breckenridge.
And on it you should find much information.
Just Google Search "Breckenridge website."

Breck has an awesome adventure park at one of the peaks (9?) -- alpine slide, putt putt, etc. It's a must do.

We always stayed a little farther west near Beaver Creek and went even farther to Glenwood Springs -- excellent pool with water slide -- and had a dinner night at 4 Eagle Ranch, traditional western BBQ and horseback riding. Those kinds of things are great, shop around, you may find something nearer to Breckenridge.

We also love renting bikes in Frisco, which is the town on the way to Breck from the highway, and riding around the reservoir. You can pull the 5yo in a trailer, or on a tandem. Gorgeous!

Cool day trip: Leadville. Charming old western town with a beachy reservoir.

Breckenridge elementary school has a good playground. There is a toy shop on Main street that has a play place in the back of the store. We always go to vail one day. They have a beautiful botanical garden. I want to say its the Betty Ford gardens. you can walk through that, and it ends at a really cute park as well. If you go up another exit or two from that, there are some restaruants and then a cute pirate ship park. we always eat at downstairs at erics in breck. really good pizza. very kid friendly.if you do the peak 8 activities, probably best to get a day pass. it gets expensive fast. you can ride the gondola for free. oh we also go to keystone for a day as well. if you look on their website, they have one day a week where they do a kids activity. i think last summer it was every tuesday.

Breckenridge is a great place to visit in the summer! And you will really appreciate the cooler weather in the summer. Breckenridge has a lot of local activities going on over the summer- look on the city website for what is planned during your visit (concerts, art shows, magic shows, bike races, etc.
The city has an ice rink on the outskirts of town if you want to try ice skating. They also have a recreation center that has a climbing wall and other activities. Ride up to the Peak Eight (? I think) recreation center where they have slides, put put and other fun activities. And usually in the summer there is still a big pile of snow that hasn't melted yet. Have a wonderful time!

The Breckenridge Brewery is a cool place to eat (not too bar-ish for the kids, it's a casual restaurant). And you MUST do the Apline Slide- it will be your kids favorite thing there, I promise. I like it a lot, too! :-) It often rains in the afternoons, so I would try to get to the slide earlier than later, just FYI.

Make sure to check a Breck website to see if/when there are any cool festivals when you are looking to go. There may be one that you would love to see and could plan around, and others may be something you'd like to avoid (like some crazy music festival that will bring weirdos, noise, and more expensive lodging).

Beautiful place, you'll have a great time.
