So What Happened?

I had my pre-op today and Dr. said that because I was not going big (almost an A to a 36 B) that it would not take me long to heal. I work in an art gallery and wont be doing much of anything. There for my Surgery is on Wend and I will be back to work Fri. Thank you all so much for your input. I am terrified but if I decided if I can not go to work on Fri I will just tell them that I need another day off. So wish me luck>> I know that I should wait until I have more time but I have to get it done before I chicken out.... Thank you all again..

I have had a breast implant and would highly recommend that you take more time off. I also have a friend that had one and is on her third week off from work and she does not have children.

I had them and had it done on Friday went back to work on Tuesday. It depends on the job you do too- I have a desk job so I did not do much if nothing at all lifting. Good Luck- It was the best thing I ever did other than have my children.

If you are able to wait until you can take 2-3 more days you'll be better off. I best friend was out for a week. Best to have it done on a Thursday that way you have the weekend to recover. Good Luck!

I personally haven't had it done, but I work for a Medical benefits company and people who HAVE had it done through our company have been saying a week to 2 weeks depending on how much you use your upper body for doing things!!

I had my done a year ago and I did it on a Thursday so I had Friday and the weekend to recover. I was up and doing stuff for myself on Friday and by Monday I felt just fine. Of coarse everyone recovers differently but I had three c-sections and this was a breeze compared to those.

If you have other questions, please feel free to ask.

I would have to agree with the rest of these gals, I'd try to at least schedule it for a Thursday and take the weekend off. I had that and a tummy tuck done 6 months ago and the first week is a little slow moving. I'd plan it when you can take a little more time than just the day after off.

You need a lot more time to recover then a day. It will take about a week at least before you are feeling good.

I've not had breast implants but from what I know from my two friends that have had them, it takes about 4 days to a week to recover enough to go back to work. Hope this helps!

I haven't personally had breast implants but my sister and a few close girlfriends have and they needed at least 3-4 days before getting back to their normal routines. You should never try to push yourself to hard after surgery. Maybe you could schedule your procedure on a Thursday so you can take that Friday off and also have the weekend for a recovery period if you are unable to take more time off from work?

It just depends on what you do for a living. I'm a legal assistant and I don't need to lift or move around a lot. I had it done on a Wednesday afternoon, took Thursday off and came to work on Friday. Although my boss was out of town and I was the only one there. I only took the pain medication on the day I had the surgery and the next 2, but wished I would have realized that I could switch to ibuprofen because I wouldn't have taken the prescription pain medication on Friday because that was my biggest problem, that I was tired. I didn't have much pain at all. The doctor told me to sleep on my back, but propped up. I slept on our "L" shaped couch for a couple days. I have heard a lot depends on what surgeon you go to and the placement of the implant. I had mine under the muscle, which I believe all doctors suggest. They can still detect breast cancer this way since the implant is under the muscle. Like a few other people said, I am still so happy that I did the surgery and it has been 3 years. If you are from the Des Moines area and you want any advice on surgeons, let me know.

It will be 2 years in June since I had mine done, and I would say you will need at the very least 4-5 days of R&R. It is very painful to lift your arms to put your shirt on, to sit up in bed, any type of lifting for those first few days. After that, it slowly gets better. "working" your breasts (they want you to lay on your tummy on your breasts, and move them)to reduce the scar tissue from forming and to help to soften them as they are very firm to begin with.I did have some numbness in my nipples that they never told me could happen, but that only lasted for 2-3 weeks...full sensitivity is back. Love them, and would do it over again in a heartbeat! Clothes fit better/look nicer and I just feel better about myself as a woman. Hope this helps.

It's been 4 yrs since I had mine done. I started to move around the night I got mine done because I knew if I didn't get to moving around I'd not be able to later. My doctor didn't tell me to lay on my stomach, in fact he told me not to. I did have the numbness in the nipples and it too went away. I too love my new look and wished I had it done a lot sooner. You will need more then just one day to recover though.

My sister's bestfriend just got implants, she had a lot of pain. They start off being hard as rocks and you have to massage them to get the to soften up like normal. One of hers ended up getting infected. I think she also only took 2 days off. I would suggest waiting until you have like a long weekend. Good luck. (I want them too after baby #3) Let me know how it goes:-)

I haven't had them myself but have 2 friends who had breast implants. They both took a week off work for the recovery and were very slow moving the following week when they went back to work. My advice would be you need at least a week off work to get a head start on the recovery. Good Luck!

I would definately wait. I had a reduction and couldnt work for 3 weeks, and a friend who had implants needed 2 weeks off work and then a month with a restriction on how much she could lift. Your going to need much more than 2 days to recove also. talk to your doc and if they say 2 days is ok, i would recommed another doctor. good luck, R.

Hi K. :)

I definitely think you should wait until you are able to take more time off. I have two friends who recently had breast implants done and they both needed a full week off to recover...but they also experienced alot of pain when they went back to work for another week. If they could have, they would have taken 2 weeks off. But I think it really depends on what you are doing as a profession. They are both hair stylists so they lift their arms alot. They absolutely LOVE them! I have heard that if you go through the belly button to have your implants done, the recovery time is WAY faster. You might want to look into that and see if it's a good option for you if you're short on recovery time. Good luck! :)

I have personally not had breast implants, but I have a friend who just did. She was told she needed 4-6 weeks for recovery! If you had it done and only had 1 or 2 days before work, you would not heal to the best it could be. My opinion, I would wait until I had more time to take off!

No personal experience just what I have heard from my daughter's surgeon. She is having a breast reduction. She is to be off 1-2 weeks from work. She will have a lifting restriction of no more than 9 pounds. (Check the weight of you purse.) Her surgeon told us that even though implant surgery is shorter and less incision (than a reduction surgery) an implant recovery is more painful. Also smokers and overweight people have more problems. I know someone who had an implant surgery and went back to work in a little over a week and had to come home early her first day back and go to the emergency room - she had bad drainage problems.
I'm honestly not trying to scare you, just sharing what I know. Your consultation appointment should give you all your information and you can go from there. Best Wishes

I got implants before i had my son so it was a little easier. You are really going to need more time off than that, you are going to need at least 2 weeks to get to where you can kind of move on your own and even then you are very limited. Your hubby is going to have to be the sole care take of your child for a while you basically can't do much except lay there and take pain pills. After about a month you are just a bout fully mobile again. You for sure want to do what the doctor says when it comes to what you can do when. Because I pushed the limits and one sliped out from under the muscle. Other than that I love them, and am very happy I got them. Good luck!!

Only one day of recovery? I had the opposite procedure, a breast reduction. I was told 6 weeks of recovery. I was in college at the time and only had 2 weeks before classes started again. I did it, but it was painful. The next day I was still dizzy from being put under and hopped up on pain meds. This is major surgery and chances are you will needs much more recovery time than that, especially if you have an active job. Unless, of course, implants can be done somehow less invasively than a reduction. What does your doctor say about recovery time?
