Yes, my son really wanted his bottle until he was about 19-20 months. Some kids can do the "cold turkey" thing, but my son isn't one of those. I cut it back to only a bottle of milk around bedtime which was always one of the time we'd give him a bottle. It wasn't a full bottle either, about 4-5 ounces only of milk. Then I started to cut back to every other night. When he asked for "bottle" before bed I'd tell him I didn't have a bottle but maybe next time. My son's pretty agreeable when I tell him he can have something later so this worked well. After a week we cut it back to one bottle in a week, after a week or 10 days of this, then I cut out the bottles totally. I moved the bottles from the kitchen cabinet where he knew they were so he couldn't ask for them, or see them if we opened that door. And everytime he asked for a bottle I again just said, "oh the bottles are all gone, how about some juice?". Overall I think it took about 3 weeks to go from nightly bottles to none at all, and never again, he's now 25 months.

Don't worry if other kids are weened earlier (some other moms can make it seem like a big deal), you're daughter is fine. But since you're asking, now might be a good time to slowly get her off the bottle. Good luck!

Hi Sofia,

My son is 18 months old and still takes his formula from a bottle. He would never take it from a sippy cup (just water) and I have to give him at least 15 oz each day (instructions from his ped), so I don't fight it. I figure that as soon as he no longer has to have formula, he will no longer get a bottle. I am thinking that the binky will go away too at the same time. My brother did that with his kids and they did very well.

Good luck!

I don't know about other moms. But i believe my son gave his up at about 2 or 3 not really sure. My daughter the same. It was soothing to them and i really saw no harm. As they got older. It was just for nap and bed time. We didn't have sipper cups in the 70's so they drank out of a glass. I knew they were through with the bottle when they thew it out of the bed half full..

My daughter took her bottle until she was 2. When I was ready to be done with them, we told her the birdie came and took her bottle away. She asked for it for one day and then she just kept saying " the birdie took my baba?" and then she was over it.
Good luck!!
