Books to Help Daughter as I Return to Work from Maternity Leave

I am heading back to work in a week after being home on maternity leave. One way I'd like to help my 3 year old daughter with this transition is by reading stories with moms who go back to work or are working. One we enjoyed is When Mama Comes Home Tonight by Eileen Spinelli.

Does anyone have any other suggestions?

Thanks!

What can I do next?

I read about an idea to make the first couple weeks easier, but I cannot recall the source. To ease kids with transitions, create your own book about the daily routine. It is best to have someone come along with you to take the pictures.

Here's what it would look like:
Take a picture of you and your daughter and son eating breakfast, take a picture getting into the car, take another at the daycare facility (or wherever she's going during your work hours), take a picture of her laughing there or doing something enjoyable, take a picture of you picking her up and hugging, etc.

It can be a small picture book that you can talk about together at bedtime, and she can take it with her, too.

I checked our son's book collection but didn't find any titles that jumped out at me to help with this change. Katy and the Big Snow (Burton) is a book that discusses how a female plow works in a town. Perhaps that would open up some discussion?

Good luck!

Hi, I am not sure about any books - but maybe you can google that and put those words in the title and come up with something - then go to the library!!!!

BUT we have these DVDs "Baby Songs", and one of the songs is My Mommy Comes Back. It is awesome - we would watch that song before I left or the evening before if I was leaving to early the next day...my daughter loved it and it helped!
My Mommy Comes Back
My Mommy Comes Back
My Mommy Comes Back to get me,
My Mommy Comes Back
My Mommy Comes Back
She never would forget me.....

Very cute...the best of luck!!! I too, work part time, and I LOVE it - I feel like I get the best of both worlds - being in the outside world and being at home too. (Although lately we have been REALLY broke)! ha!!!

All the best....

I think your best resource is your local library. Talk to someone in the children's dept. I bet they will have lots of ideas for you. Good luck.

when mamma comes home tonight is a great one!
some other good books for separation are owl babies, where's my teddy, the kissing hand.
they're not specifically about moms working, though.
can i ask how and where you found your part time teaching job? i would like to find something like that myself.
