I am trying to find books that will interest my 3 year old. We read every night but the books we have are getting old (probably more for me than him). I am trying to get suggestions for books that your kids loved too. I am reading, "I love you stinky face" , his favorite, twice a night. A great book no doubt but we'd like to hear about some of your favorites.

I am an avid reader and have passed that on to my 3-1/2 year old daughter. Some of her favorite authors are:

Mo Willem (he writes the "Pigeon" books which are very funny)
Lois Ehlert
Eric Carle
Dan Yaccarino (creator of "Oswald", but writes wonderful children's books as well)

"Goodnight Moon" and the companion book "My World." She also loves "Runaway Bunny."

Also, she LOVES lift-the-flap books! Little People makes quite a few of those that are very educational as well. We own three of them.

Also, there is a book from Discovery Toys that is her favorite. Each page has six different "objects" that she can choose and put in the respective spot on the page in the story. Once she has chosen all her objects, we then go back and read the story with what she has chosen. Each night she has a different story with the one book. They have one for girls that is about a princess and one for boys that is about a pirate. If you are interested in ordering it, please send me an e-mail as I am a consultant for Discovery Toys.

Happy reading!

CORDUROY by Don Freeman is good. The VERY HUNGRY CATERPILLAR by Eric Carle, and THE RUNAWAY BUNNY by Margaret Wise Brown and Clement Hurd, and CAPS FOR SALE by Esphyr Slobodkina is a great oldie but goody book. Another awesome book is WHEN YOU GIVE A MOOSE A MUFFIN.....by Laura Numeroff and Felicia Bond. These are just a few good ones that come to mind. This is a great age to introduce Dr. Seuss!

Interactive books are great for this age. Books where they can press a button, point out something or sound around books. Your local library should be able to help you make some great choices. Also check to see if your local library as a mommy and child reading activity time. I live in Woodstock and our local library has some great summer reading programs for all ages.

Some of the books we always loved were "Snowshoe Thompson," "The Drinking Gourd," "Dust for Dinner," "Morris the Moose Book," "Stan the Hot dog Man" and other Step into Reading books. They are very child friendly books can be gotten at your local library or purchased in hard back or paper back at any Borders or Barnes and Noble book store. You may also consider a children book of Bible stories.

Just Keep on Reading! I have taught Reading Comprehension class to children 3rd and 4th grade. I have found the earlier you start the better your child will be when they start school. Or if you choose home schooling.

I was never a huge user of the library until we moved to the suburbs. Now we go pretty much every week and get 5-8 books. My son loves it and my husband and I enjoy the variety of books. It's a great way to expose him to new topics, not just trucks and tools! Have fun!

We had the same problem, so I got a library card and now we go to the library every week to pick out new books to read every night.

Some of my son's favorites have been "Llama, Llama, Red Pajama", "The Best Time of Day", "Millie Moo", "Llama, Llama, Mad at Mama", "Big Red Barn", "Some Dogs Do", "Tough Trucks", "Tremendous Tractors", "Dazzling Diggers".
