Hello!

I am going through a really really hard time at school right now, and I was wondering if anyone could recommend an upbeat book (fiction or non) to get me out of my real life for a little while each day!
Thank you!

I love Sophia Kinsella too. You can easily read her books in a few days, I actually find it hard to tear myself away from them! Her characters are great!

If you wanted something more dramatic I really liked "The Secret Life of Bees" by Sue Monk Kidd. I know they recently came out with a movie, but the book is so great.

May I suggest Nicholas Sparks. He wrote Message in a Bottle, A Walk to Remember, Nights in Rodanthe, The Notebook (all made into movies that didn't do them justice). Some of his others are: The Rescue & The Wedding. They are very easy to read, are romantic in nature (not the sex stuff), and are somewhat predictable. Great question to post! I enjoyed reading others' suggestions.

There's a book called "American Idle" (it has nothing to do with the TV show) by Alesia Holiday that I have read several times as an outlet. The author writes in a way that lets you get completely enveloped so you don't have to think about the real world for a couple of hours. It also is completely irrelevant to any real world situations and is very up beat... Nothing depressing about it at all... just a romantic comedy sort of thing.

I just read Sophie Kinsella's new book 'Remember Me' in 3 days- I couldn't put it down! I haven't gotten into a book like that for years. Usually it takes me months to finish one. I have read almost all her books and it's always a light no-thinking required good time....seems like just what you're looking for. It also just came out on paperback so it was a nice little treat I picked up at Target for myself one day.

Jane Green is great. I would pick anyone.
Confessions of a Shopaholic, by Sophie Kinsella
Tales of a Female Nomad By Rita Golden Gelman is really amazing. Made me stop and think.
A place I got to get good books is Cosmo's book club they have some great picks.
But my favorite is to put an audio book in the car or just chilling or to clean house and such.

Depending on your sense of humor-- I tend to be more on the wry/witty side--I'd recommend anything by David Sedaris. His books are laugh-out-loud funny, and they might be just the thing to give you a good laugh/smile each day. I especially loved his book Naked. His books are made up of short vignettes, so you can read as much or as little as you want.

My favorite Author is Michael Crichton... there was a poorly made movie from one of his books Sphere (the movie did not do the book justice at all!). Some of the books are based on science (biology, technology and so on), so if you want time away from science then I you might want to pass on his books. Here are a few his books I love; Sphere, Prey, Rising Sun, Jurassic Park (like the movie), Timeline, Electronic Life.

Here are 2 books I just read both by Gregory Maguire; Wicked: The Life and Time of the Wicked Witch of the West and Son of a Witch. They are a take from the movie Wizard of Oz and the novel Wonderful Wizard of Oz, and there is one more in the series that just came out A Lion Among Men, but I have not read it as of yet.
