My teenager has a few blackheads in his ears...I'm sure its from wearing the earbuds for his I-pod, and all that grease and dirt just getting trapped in there...
But it disgusts me!! how can we get rid of them?

What can I do next?

What I would recommend is dilute some hydrogen proxide with water and use a qutip to spread the mixture around where the blackheads are ... it should clean out the dirt enough so that they'll clear up and go away; and if that doesn't work, get a really mild face soap and have him rub it with a qutip just inside. Then, make sure he cleans off the i-buds or buy him a regular set of headphones. Good luck!

You can get a Blackhead removal tool that you can get at Meijer or Walmart. It's a silver instrument that's in with the cosmetics by the nail care things like files and clippers.

This is crazy that you posted this....I have the same issue with my 12 year old but I don't think it has to do w/ the earbuds, I think it is genetics. My dad had them in his ears I used to get them in my ears and none of us are compulsive about the earbuds. Two things to get rid of them -it sounds goofy but toothpaste the paste is great for acne! I used it during my teen years and now my son uses it. You need to use the paste though not a gel. Put it on before bed and it pulls out the yuck. I mentioned this to the ear nose and throat dr we were just there last week, she said genetics as well and said use some type of antibiotic ontiment like neosporin. Also we use for black heads the astringint pads and are careful to clean all areas including the ear where the black heads are. Good luck.

Believe it or not if you use a bobby pin and run the rounded edge over the skin, they usually come out very easily.

I've had a problem with acne all my life so I would suggest an over the counter product with salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide. Not a wash, but either a toner and/or topical cream.

Put on a cotton ball or qtip and apply to the ear. The topical cream might dry the skin more than the toner (depending on his skin type - I can handle it, but some people can't), but the topical cream will probably last longer thoughout the day. Or he could start with once every other day and then gradually move to once every day.

This is kinda funny but the other day on TV someone showed that if you put a little of tacky glue on them and when it dries peel it away they say it works! Good luck
