My daughter is almost 10 years old, she has acne and a lot, a lot of black heads. Anyone know what you can do to get that better?/ I want to use the comedone too to remove them, but she doesn't want me to. She hates this, but at the same time, she's not good at cleaning her face everyday, she doesn't do it, I even bought the Proactive system for her, she did it for a couple of weeks and now it sits there. she doesn't like her face, and hides it with her hair, but at the same time doesn't want me to remove them. Any ideas to make her feel better?? any natural remedies?? I love natural stuff. Ideas would be appreciated

I agree with Dawn B. My children starting breaking out and after many trips to the dermatologist and more medication then I can tell you I started taking them to my facialist. Acne and pimples start weeks before they actually appear so deep cleaning from facials was what cleared them up beautifully. No antibiotics, topical solutions (some made it worse) My children are grown now and have beautiful skin. A facial for them does not have to have all the bells and whistles, just steam, extract, and deep cleanse it worked for us. Also, hormones play a huge part in acne so that is something that is out of her control. Good luck!!

Unless you are a dermatologist or facialist, you're not qualified to remove blackheads, please don't risk damaging her young, sensitive skin by doing that. Make her an appointment with a dermatologist who can recommend a good but gentle skincare system (make sure she uses it, even if you have to stand over her everyday) and perhaps a mild, topical medication. Good luck!

Try removing dairy from her diet. Completely for a few weeks. See if that helps.

Get off the American diet. Stay out of fast food places. No more dairy. Her face is reflecting her physical health. Go online and get a used copy of Healing Ourselves by Naboru Muramoto. You don't need to do the entire diet but do take up what he says about acne. I used to know him when he was teaching many years ago.
His ideas are still leaps and bounds ahead of other people's.

Try getting her to use the "Clear Skin" little round pads in a jar. They work wonders and dont' take long to use prior to bedtime or really anytime. As well with her using her hair to hide her face is not good. The oil from her hair is actually causing more harm than good. This is so hard to tell a 10yr.old though. My son at the age of 12 started using the Clear Skin Pads and I couldn't believe the difference in just a couple of days'. Yes it gets rid of the blackheads as well. She if she will try this. Talking to them at this age is very embarrassing for them. Pick the Clear Skin up, set it in her room or Bathroom. Dont' go into a long talk just say I bought you something today and leave it at that. The more you bring it up the worse they feel. Let her read the Directions and just check to see if shes' using the pads. You will know by her skin. At this age they are very embarrassed to talk about it and remember her hormones at this time are running rampant. Good Luck with the Clear Skin. Make sure its the Pads not the Cream.

I tried every natural and healthy remedy when I was a teen. Not a single thing worked, not even proactive or expensive stuff at the health food store. The only thing that worked was oral antibiotics from a dermatologist, I even did a round of accutane. I don't blame her, I would not want the comedone either as it can cause scarring and infection if not done properly or properly sterilized. My sister had it done from a dermatologist and it is painful.

Now that I am older, I can do some small spot treatments that help, but it still doesn't give me clear skin but helps with specific difficult spots. You will like it, totally natural. Just a little bit of water and sea salt:

She needs to stop touching her face, not let her hair touch her face (hard I know), not let things like cell phones touch her face, wash her face morning and night, but not overwash otherwise it can cause further irritation.

I agree with Laeh G. that her diet has to change. Encourage her to drink more water as well. Try to make sure she is getting well balanced meals not from a can or a box. She is 9, don't make her too big of a complex about this but if she learns good eatings habits now, her acne problem in her teenage years should be less hopefully.

Just make sure she moisturizes after she showers. The chlorine in the water takes away so much of the good stuff it lets all the bad stuff create acne & black heads. That is the most important thing. As a preteen & a teenager I feed into all the hype of kids having an oily completion. It made it awful, I would use a buff puff on my face & clean it until it was raw, that perpetuated the problem.
Once a day morning or night warm water & a SOFT wash cloth, then moisturizer & finally to close the pores an ice cube on the face or cold water. It's that simple. I recommend mercola.com http://www.mercolahealthyskin.com/ Organic USDA certified. skin care.
You should never put anything on your skin you can't eat.

She seems to be going through that awkward stage. Perhaps make it fun and a bit more grown up by taking her for a facial or for a girls day about skin care. Do you have a nightly routine with your skin? Maybe you can do it together in the evening. It may be worth an appt to a dermatologist to educate both of you on skin care. Good luck!

OK, first off for the black heads the only thing for them is Biore style remover things ... and a wonderful mostly Vegan products store is Lush ... www.lushusa.com, it's the best ... take her IN to the store they can help find the right stuff. Turn it into a together thing for your face routine. I was bad about it at that age too and then my mom got me nice stuff and we did it together in the AM and PM.

Acupuncture and herbs are really great for that, if she is open to it.

Noxzema used to work really well also and it isn't very expensive. I don't even know if you can buy the product anymore but look for it.

Usually acne and blackheads are from an unclean inside body. Is she going to the bathroom every day and what is her diet like. Usually you clean up her diet - rarely no greasy foods, rarely no fast foods - only fruits, vegies and chicken, fish and occasionally beef once to three times per week and the problem will either go away or diminish.

What goes on outside the body usually is what is going on inside the body. Some people are more sensitive then others so their bodies react worse than other people with the same diet.

Hormones also have a lot to do with it - especially if she is starting her period.

You have to remove blackheads. They will not go away by themselves.

Here's my trick when I want to remove a blackhead from a child who doesn't want me to -- I PAY them to let me do it. Ten or twenty bucks will buy a lot of patience and acquiescence from a child. I can't stand to see my children going around with blackheads.

Offer her an amount of money she can't refuse.

The comedo remover tool only works for some areas of the face. Sides of nose, forehead and side of forehead, and ears. It doesn't work well on cheeks or front of nose. Wash her face thoroughly in warm water to open the pores, rinse well, sterilize a needle, and gently poke the blackheads first. Then squeeze with a tissue. If you have already done this, you will know what you're doing. If not, you might not be that good at it.

OR, if you feel uncomfortable doing it yourself, take her to a facial aesthetician (not a dermatologist), or an aesthetician who works in a dermatologist's office, and have her do it.

p.s. -- If you have never squeezed blackheads before, then I definitely suggest you take her to an expert.

I'd get some type of astringent pads and apply it to her face as part as the bedtime routine, if she doesnt want to do it herself you can go ahead and do it for her, then slather a little moisturizer on. Tell her you love her and her clean face at bedtime will make a world of difference.
Talking on the phone and just touching your face during the day leaves lots of bacteria. Black heads and zits have to have bacteria to form.... a good, healthy diet on the inside and cleanliness on the outside are both very important for good skin. Make sure she's drinking lots of water to purge out bacteria.
