Well, this will get criticism, I'm sure, and I'm not saying do it or don't do it but just putting it out there. The daughter of a co-worker of mine started biting. The co-worker was determined that she would not have a child that bites and she bit her back. All I can say is it worked for her, but she did it early on before it had become a habit.

I'm a mom of 5. Bite him back. It's the most effective method. When they bite, it feels good to them. They don't understand the results for the recipient until they are shown. Bite hard enough to leave a mark, but of course not to break skin.

It's a long road ahead.....patience and consistency are about the only things you can do until he's old enough to speak and really "understand" you.

Watch him for emotional triggers or meltdown points and try to distract him or remove him before he starts biting. Tell him in a firm no-nonsense voice "No biting, that hurts people."

He's probably too young to understand "time outs" or even taking away toys. I think this only makes their frustration worse and fuels the fire. Try to be understading and loving, yet firm about not biting so maybe he won't get so frustrated and angry.

Good luck!
