Hello, my husbands birthday is coming up and as money is short these days I don't really want to go and spend a bunch of money on him. I am thinking around $20. Does anyone have a any suggestions on something I can do that is a little more creative for less money. I of course will be making him dinner and a cake, I just want something for him to unwrap. He is into music, video games and snowboarding and his family. Any suggestions are appreciated!

What can I do next?

How about a personal coupon book? You can make one good for a massage or a night out together stuff like that.

I saw the cutest thing on Pinterest, where someone took pictures of each family member holding a different letter spelling out LOVE - and they framed each picture in one of those picture collage things. Take a bunch of digital pics, have them printed up and buy a nice frame!

I saw this really great idea and post on my friend's facebook page. I don't know when your husband's Birthday is but she was making this for her husband for Valentine's Day. It's very personal and I LOVED it; she took a large frame and put a piece of fabric in the back-removed the piece of glass. She made it like a nice bulletin board/collage type where she put thicker thread/string so it would hold things like tickets, photos etc. You could put ticket stubs he has from some fav concerts, sayings cut out from cards he's received, fliers from fav video games, photos of he and family snowboarding or time in the snow or other photos of you, family etc. Some of the favorites. Just make it personal and I don't think you would lose with this one. All the Best...

I collected funny faced pictures of my husband and put them on a custom mug from Costco. He loved it! Also, on many photo systems like Picassa or iPhoto, you can make a photo collage and have it printed at costco. Even the big ones (16 x 26) are only like $12. You can us an on-line program too like Smilebox

I usually do this around fathers day every few years for my husband. I take my kids to the store and they pick out 2 different colored fabric paint and a light colored shirt for dad. Either, gray or white work best.
We then place a piece of cardboard inbetween the front and back. This year I let both my kids do a separate shirt. My daughter did her hand prints all over the shirt and I wrote. "My hands may be small but I can still wrap daddy around them" For my son he also did hand prints and he wrote "I got the best redneck dad"

Others that I did when they were smaller was painted the bottom of their feet and let them walk across the shirt. Then write " I walk all over my daddy"

My husband wears the shirts and once they get to the point where they are a worn down. I take them and put them away with the kids' firsts! MY husband loves this and looks forward to when we do new ones!

I would say you are basically already doing what is great...making his special dinner with cake. One thought is to ask him what special dinner he'd like or if he'd prefer to go out to a restaurant for dinner instead. If not, maybe you can take him to a movie - even a Sunday or Saturday matinee would be nice since it's a little less expensive.

I like the photo of the kids in a nice frame (with or without word cards) and coupon book idea. You can also get a digital key chain for that price and load lots of pictures on it. Pinterest is a great resource for crafts and gifts.
Good luck & happy birthday to your husband!

I am not at all crafty so when money is tight I take my four kids (age 3-8) to the dollar store with their piggy bank money and each one picks out a single gift for Daddy that they pay for themselves. They enjoy the freedom to pick their own gift, like the responsibility of paying themselves, and Daddy ends up with a lot of little gifts to unwrap. The dollar store has a lot of fun little treasures, we have found.

How about going to a used book store & finding a cheap book he might
like. It can even be a picture book of snowboarding great stunts.

A used video game from a used video game store.

Later after dinner, give him a 30 mins massage.

Does he have an iPod for his music, maybe find some songs for him to
add. If he does not have an iPod, buy him a used CD for his car of one
of his fave bands?
