Follow the directions for cupcakes - check them about 5 min. early, do the clean toothpick test. If it comes out clean they are done.

Hope that helps!

I did these for my daughter's birthday and they were a big hit! They are very easy. Fill the cone half way with batter and cook. The "cake" cones have the recipe on the box.

They cook for about 20-25 min. at 350 degrees. Wrap foil around the cone base and stand on a cookie sheet or in muffin tins. One cake mix will make about 25. if you want the cake to rise above the cone to look more like a scoop of ice cream then wrap a 3" strip of foil around the rim of the cone to force the cake to cook up instead of spilling over the sides. There are several websites with the instructions.

i have never done this. however, i would think you could just make cupcakes & stuff them into the top of the cone & then put on the icing & sprinkles. but i don't know what you would use to stand & serve them in. this is a really cute idea though & i think i am going to try it for my next birthday party.

Just put the cake mix in the cones and bake like you would a cupcake. Check with a toothpick to ensure they are done.

Hi T.,

I second the the fact that they are messy, and not worth the hassle unless you are doing a small batch of a dozen or less. Just my $.02.

If you just do cute cupcakes, Wal-Mart & Target have great display trees' Or there are the new cupcake cake molds, where the top is one piece (animal, design with happy birthday, etc) and the cupcakes can be broken apart after the candles are blown. They're super cute! Target also has molds, and Tom Thumb stores sell them in their bakery.

Good luck with whatever you decide!

I just wanted to let you know that we have made these cones a few times, and each time they are just ok. The cone gets very soft, kind of soggy, and the kids dont really eat them. It was especially true when I made them the night before my daughters birthday to take to school. They are a fun idea, and I could be doing something wrong, although I am not sure what, but I wanted to warn you in case you were planning on doing a ton, or for people you feel the need to "impress" Have fun making what ever you decide, and happy birthday to your little one! ~A.~

Here's the recipe from Paula Deen on Food Network:
1 box favorite cake mix
1/2 cup cold water
2 eggs
3 tablespoons water
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 tablespoon cooking oil
24 flat-bottomed ice cream cones
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
Combine cake mix and 1/2 cup cold water. Beat 2 minutes. Beat in eggs, water, vanilla and oil. Mix well. Place ice cream cones in muffin tins or on cookie sheet and fill each 1/2 full with batter. Bake 20 minutes or until cake springs back to the touch. Frost and decorate when cooled, if desired.
