Birthday Party Advice

Hi mamas,
I have a quick question...My daughter who will be turning 3 wants a roller skating party. Well, I have found somewhere to do it. The price is $45 for 10 skaters and $4.50 for each additional skater. Well, my husband and I both come from very large families. So with family and friends, we have around 35-40 kiddos that will be invited. So, my question is, since the party package only includes 10 skaters and we will be paying $4.50 for each additional skater would it be rude to add a little note with the invitation saying that we will only be paying for the child/children invited, that parents may skate if they want to, but that it will be $4.50? Does any of this make any sense or am I just rambling!!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you so much for all the advice. It is GREATLY appreciated!! Just to put all the mamas at ease about the "she might be to young to skate thing." We went to a skating birthday party for her cousin just a few weeks ago, that is when she started in on wanting a skating party. I would totally agree with everyone about her being to young if I hadn't seen her skate myself! Well, I don't know if you would actually call it skating, since all 4 wheels on each skate were tightened completely!!!!! So, basically she was just walking! But, in all honestly, her and a handful of others are younger, everyone else on the invite list are at least 7 or older. Thank you for being so considerate, I really appreciate it:)

I have been planning a skating party for my 5 year old son. And we too have a HUGE family, so we are having a private skate party at the Silver Wheel in Fort Worth off White Settlement area. My son loves the place when we went to view it. Glow in the dark area, lighted dancing floor.

40 skaters $200 and no charge for parents or kids that will not skater. And you can bring in outside food. And I think over 40 skaters is $4.50.

Have a great party.

I don't think there is anything wrong with you asking adults to pay if they want to skate. The party is after all for the kids--you aren't going to give all the adults party favors too, right? I would state on the invitation something like-- adults are welcome to skate for $4.50-- or --adults can rent their skates for $4.50. Hope this helps.

I think it would be perfectly fine to ask parents and siblings to pay. Something like, "Parents and siblings are welcome to skate. The cost is $4.50 per person."

It's not rude at all. Just include a note that parents & sibs are welcome and cost would be $4.50. I think most parents know that extra children are their responsibility.

This comment is for you in case you don't end up having a skate party.
I, along with my daughter, own Bonancin Bonanza in Crowley. We are an indoor facility with 13 bounce houses, including a joust ring, obstacle course, slide and others. We host parties and have times open to the public.
You can check us out on the web at www.bouncinbonanza.net or call us at ###-###-####.
Good luck with your party.

I don't think it's rude at all....I would never go to a child's birthday party and expect to have my way paid for. I think the little note would be fine. You could make a little "ticket" type thing on the computer to put in each invite that says something about one skater admitted or something like that, I can't really think of the words, but you can get my drift! Hope your party is super fun! Happy Birthday to the kiddo!

I agree with putting one ticket in with the invitation as well as a comment that parents and siblings are allowed to attend but the cost will be $4.50.

The roller rink in Arlington did not charge me admission unless I actually wanted to rent skates and skate so you may see if that is the option at the place you are going as well. Of course, this party I attended was for reaching 100 AR points so it may have been a special school function price/policy.

I would also reconsider a skating party for a 3 yr old if they have never skated before. My 8 yr old could barely skate himself for the first time, which was at this school party. I even manged to fall down quite a bit and use to rule the skating floor back in the day LOL.

Make sense and i understand but... It really looks a little tacky. Your family you can probably jsut tell but you are the one who is throwing the party and you did invite them. You will realize once everyone is there that most fo the adults won't skate anyway. Good luck and be tactiful...you have many years of party left

My 10 year old son just had a skating party and it dos get pricey so in the invitations we said 'FREE ADMISSION TO ALL CHILDREN WHO ARE PARTY GUEST AND FREE ADMISSION TO PARENTS WHO WILL NOT BE SKATEING...IF ANY PARENT WOULD LIKE TO SKATE THE CHARGE FOR SKATING IS 4.50...At the skating rink we went to we had to provide a guest list of all the children whi would be included in the party that way your bill doesnt get out of control. It is a childs party and I am sure all the parents will understand. Good luck and God bless!!

Definitely not rude. On the invite Please mark down that if anyone else in the family would like to come and skate ..the price is .......... I was in this situation and I di that and no problem. People SHOULDNT expect you to pay for those that are not a part of the party- Of course invite them to partake in the cake, etc. But having the price info ahead of time would be the proper thing to do.

I don't think it would be rude, that's your budget that you can only afford to pay for the kids. I think adults would understand this.

I have a little boy who will be 3 next month. He is behind and would have trouble roller skating and may even be afraid of doing that. I agree with the other gal that said you might want to take your daughter roller skating as a trial run to see if she really likes it. Anoter issue is the rink all your own for certain period of time or will there be other skaters. This is something to consider as older kids and even adults go much faster than younger kids and it would be hard to learn when it is real crowded with lots of other skaters.

Are you sure you want to do a skate party for a 3 year old? You might consider taking her skating first. They usually don't have the gross motor skills to skate that young and get very frustrated. That is just my 2 cents of course. If the other kids are older it might not be as big of a deal but if they are all under 6 I would seriously reconsider.
