hi there. try one of those pottery painting places. the one in elk grove does not charge a studio fee. just buy your piece and paint. they accomodate birthday parties. Also try Young chef academy. i think thats what its called. also in elk grove. dont know your location. kids can bake and cook stuff. birthday parties, too. good luck.

depending on your price range, there are party/ group rates available at the paint your own pottery places. I've taken kids from age 3-7 who absolutely adored painting their own little art piece. Some of the ones off the top of my head are Color me Mine www.colormemine.com and Just Clayin around in Elk Grove(http://justclaynaround.com/Just_Clayn_Around/Lets_Party.html)
I know some of them provide snacks, i think but it might be cheaper to pack snacks and finger foods that the kids can eat while painting.

Hi A.,
My daughter just turned five as well and I just had my daughters birthday at a place in Rancho Cordova called Paradise Cove Aquatic Center. It is an indoor pool and it turned out great. Most of the kids new how to swim or stayed in the shallow end. The kids really seemed to enjoy swimming since it hasn't really been an option since summer.
Good luck,
S.

Take the park to your house. We had a small house and have always had the parties at home. That way kids can play in the room and it doesn't matter if it is raining. Anything you had for decorating the park area you can use at your house. Why spend all the money on "a place" to go, when children really don't care about anything except their friends coming to their birthday party.

If it isn't too cold along with the rain, and your park has a large enough covered pavilion, why not keep it at the park and just stay under the covered area.
