Anyone have a really good cake recipe? I'd really like to make my sons 1st bday cake from scratch. Looking for either chocolate or yellow... maybe white. Thanks!

So What Happened?

I made a practice cake this weekend and the hersheys cake was sooooo yummy! I didnt love the frosting, but then added a little regular sugar and salt and it was better. I just didnt like the texture before. Thanks!

Mt Dew Cake
1 box lemon cake mix
1 4 1/2 oz. lemon instant pudding mix
1/4 cup vegetable oil
4 eggs
1 12 oz. can Mt Dew
Combine the first 4 ingredients; slowly add half of the Mt Dew. Mix; then slowly add the rest of the Mt Dew and mix. Pour into a well greased bunt pan and bake at 350 (according to pkg. directions).

okay I know you said from scratch...but I love this cake--so even if you don't do it for this--try it out sometime it's an awesome lemon cake.

For chocolate, the recipe on the can of Hershey's cocoa- the plain, unsweetened pure cocoa powder found in the baking aisle- is so good! It is my family's favorite! At this high Colorado altitude, you do have to add an extra 1/4 cup of flour. The frosting recipe on their is great, too. Have fun!

This is a great recipe! My husband's favorite.

Will’s Favorite Chocolate Cake

2 Cups Flour
½ Cup Cocoa
½ tsp. Salt
½ Cup Butter
1 ¾ Cups Sugar
3 Eggs, Separated
1 tsp. Vanilla
1 tsp. Baking Soda
1 Tbs. Hot Water
1 Cup Cold Water

Whip egg whites until fluffy and stiff, set aside. Cream butter, eggs, sugar, and vanilla. In separate bowl, sift together flour, cocoa and salt. Dissolve baking soda in the hot water, add to the creamed mixture. Gradually mix in the cold water and the flour mixture. Fold egg whites into the batter, do not over mix. Pour into a greased 9x13” cake pan and bake at 350* for 30 minutes.

Chocolate Frosting

1 Cup (2 sticks) Butter
1 Pound Powdered Sugar (approximately)
2 tsp. Vanilla
1/3 Cup Cocoa
3 Tbs. Milk
Beat together well in a mixer, adjusting for consistency as needed.

I used recipezaar.com for most of my recipes. You can search by ingredidents, time to make, skill level and so much more. You can also store your favorites in an online recipebook. Here are a few of my recipes I found for cakes, the White Almond one is alittle bit harder, but very very good.
