Big Sister Present

Some very good friends of ours just had a baby, and they have almost 10 year old twin girls. We'd like to get the older girls a present when we visit. My parents always encouraged this, as they said the older siblings often feel left out when there's a new baby.

Do you have any idea what might be a good ($10 -15 each) gift?

What can I do next?

Why not take them out for a fun time? Just them? No baby.

Even a movie - there's Finding Dory out and BFG - good kids movies.

This would give the parents a break. give the girls time away and let them be the center of attention.

Congratulations to the family!

How about gift cards for something fun they can do together? Often when there is a new baby in the house the older kids get "the shaft" and are often stuck hanging around the house while the baby naps. Trampoline park, mini golf, go carts, waterpark, pool, bowling or even a game they can play when they are stuck at home.

How about a kit to make some stepping stones? This will give them something to do and they can decorate them any way they want.

A cute T-shirt that fits their color/style. A journal. A puzzle book and some great colored pens.

A coupon book - if you can. Make a coupon for babysitting so the girls can go off with their parents without the baby, and offer to take the girls to a local museum or water park or other enjoyable "big kid' venue when their parents are locked into baby time. Include a few for pizza delivery and maybe the local movie house.

We used to give the older siblings a Morgan Silver Dollar in a little case. It was usually a hit because they could save it and it be worth more later.

Books? Crafts? Etc.

You are thoughtful. I always took siblings a gift as well.

i just had a baby and his big brother is almost 10. I found some cool stuff online. Got my older son a water bottle that says something about "world's best brother" or something, and one of those plastic bracelets like they have for everything now. he liked the water bottle better. you can get "big sister" or similar on almost anything.

Do you have any idea what they like? One of my nieces liked Lego Friends and arts and crafts at that age, and the other was more into science kits, remote control helicopters, and Percy Jackson books. It's summer, so you could even get something like a slip n slide if they have a back yard. All kids like that.

Like Beaver Canoe's idea for gift certificate fun outing for girls. I agree - something fun just for them where mom and dad will be a caught up in baby stuff for a while.

But lego, craft kits, books, etc. fun too. I think they'll just appreciate being thought of :)

Nice idea
