Best Floor Sweeper

Do any of you recommend a floor sweeper? I was looking at the Bissell floor sweepers but they seem to vary in price so much and I really don't see much difference between the cheaper and more expensive ones. I'd like to get one so my kids can help out with the crumbs that they always leave on our tile floors. My sister-in-law is a middle-school teacher and says that her class fight over who gets to use the sweeper at the end of the day! - not a bad problem to have. Anyway which ones are best for crumbs and pet hair? Are they worth the money?

What can I do next?

I just looked at all of mine, and realized all are Hoovers.
By a sweeper, I am not too sure what you classify as a sweeper... a hand push non electric kind or a vaccum?

The BEST vaccum I think I have ever owned is the one I just bought recently (7-8 months ago) at Home Depot for $100 is the Hoover Z400. It lookes a little funny like a spce age robot, but it works AMAZING on pet hair, and all the dander, and dust that Phoenix has to offer. It does fill up quickly if you have long haired dogs that shed a lot like mine, but it is very easy to empty.

We also have a Hoover SteamVac Dual Widepath (about 179 at Target)for a carpet cleaner that is indispensible with kids and pets. I love it because it has great suction, leaves the carpets clean, has a seperate chamber for the soap, so you can use clean water to lift out the dirt AND the saop so your carpet doesnt get so dirty so fast. And it leaves the carpet only lightly damp, not saoking wet like so many of the others, it dries SOOOO fast.

The other Hoover I have, the Floormate Widepath ($149), I am not really impressed with, but like the idea behind it better than the swiffers, so I have kept it. It is similar to a Scooba mentioned earlier, only that you actually have to push it. I like that it is made to pick up small amounts of dirt, then you can scrup the floor, and vac it clean with a water rinse. I am not real impressed with it, because on my tile floors, the scrubbers do not have good contact with the floor, and you have to go over and over a spot to get it clean, and it doesnt really squeegee it dry like I thought it would, so it leaves streaks you have to go back and wipe up.

Let us know what you chose and how it works!

I don't know about sweepers, but I have the BEST floor mop. It's a robot and it cleans way better than I do because it sucks/squeegees up the dirty water as it brushes with the clean water. My house is mostly tile and it does such an awesome job. It's a Scooba by iRobot and you can buy it at www.irobot.com. I believe they make one for people with pets that can handle pet hair. Best money I ever spent. I have a clean house, but I'm horrible when it comes to floors and I hate sweeping/mopping, so my husband did some research and found this product. We were hesitant to spend the money (roughly $200), but the consumer reviews were good and I'm SO SO glad we took the plunge.

I will say that they sometimes wear out and stop working, but they have an awesome and easy return policy and replace it for free within one year with very little hassle. And hopefully the technology will just keep improving so they last longer. I also have irobot's vacuum, the Roomba, and it works well but obviously can't have the suction of a normal vacuum due to it's small size. I like not having to sweep, so I like it, but I LOVE my robot mop because it works soooo well and leaves my floors extremely clean. And my son loves it. We call it our pet.

H.,
I have a Bissell and a dog. To my finding they don't mix. I keep telling my husband I want him to fix my old Hoover and get rid of this stip Bissell.... it stinks! He thinks it works good because you can empty the dog hair so quick (which it does pick up a lot) but for some reason (and I do cleasn the filters) the vaccuum itself is dusty which just shows how much is being released into the air and back on the carpet. And don't get me started on that stupid brush attachment that is supposed to turn the brush and you can do your stairs...NOT. I've never had a vaccuum that was dusty and dirty except this Bissell... don't get one. My mom has a Ricar (it needs a bag) she has had it for something like 20 years and I swear it works 10 times better than mine. I don't think you can by them in stores and I don't know how much they cost.
I also learned that those cool Dyson vaccuums break and expensive to repair. I can't wait to hear from someone that has a dog and likes their vaccuum.

Hi H. - I can't wait to see the answers on this one because I would love to know a great one as well! I have had 3 sweepers that I thought were amazing and "the best" - but the pet hair from my 2 dogs killed them very quickly. The first was the Shark and the second one was a very powerful upright dirt devil.

I really don't want to spend lots of money and my daughter loves swiffering the house (which is good for somethings, but not for everything), but I would love to know a reasonable priced cleaner that can actually handle pet hair! So, I'm not much help in the way of an answer, but I can't wait to see what people say! Thanks for posting this!
