First thought was definitely linen. Natural, lightweight summer fabric.
Hello Moms, I have a late afternoon/evening wedding to attend at a country club in FL in late June. It's going to be hot. What's the best fabric to look for in a dress so I don't sweat sweat sweat? Cotton is probably too casual and I think silk is sweaty. Not sure about the synthetics but I think it's polyester that is not my friend. Anyone have any advice how to look dressy and stay (relatively) fresh?

I like linen too - it does wrinkle, but it's beautiful and so comfy. And it's ok if it wrinkles - it's linen :) It's supposed to.
I have had really pretty dresses in cotton - but it had a sheen to it and was crisper and much more polished looking than regular cotton. And poplin fitted dresses can be nice. I can't remember what you call that cotton though, with the sheen. But it holds it's shape really well even in heat. They usually come with a lining. They are more dressy than just a plain cotton dress. That might be another option :)
Try a nice, classic linen dress. I love linen in the summer!
I too think Rayon is a nice fabric BUT it wrinkles a great deal plus it's dry clean only for the most part. If you wash it and let it hang dry the luster to the fabric is gone. It still works as a garment and will iron up nicely but it just lacks...depth or something.
I'd probably go with a lightweight cotton that is a fine weave, like the dresses from the 1920's. You know, they might have a dropped waist or embroidery on some of it, batiste, muslin, and other fabrics like that.
Here are some links to summer dresses based on the styles of the 1920's. They were feminine and hot. There was no air conditioning in those days.
Every one of these dresses are works of art.

The 3 top dresses are classic and if made with a sheerer fabric they would be modern and feminine.

This page has summer fabric tips and types. Of the five, it seems like Rayon would be your best choice.
Antiperspirant is your friend!
So is air conditioning!
Nothing too tight.
I don't know your figure but anything above the knee is a no no for me.

Cotton can be casual or not. Depends on the style of the fabric and the way the garment is designed. I've found that garments made with a cotton rayon blend are comfortable.
If the wedding and reception is in an air conditioned place, the fabric isn't as important. Cotton, linen, silk and rayon absorb perspiration. Synthetic fibers do not. Silk or a silk blend could be comfortable.
