Hi my son turned 1 in October 2010 I couldn't do a party for him, but now I feel bad I so desperately need to to something for him but how do I make it possible bcoz I don't have friends and family here.I can only manage to invite 1 or two friends. Is that a party?

What can I do next?

It's plenty of party for a toddler. Even if you didn't invite anyone you can still celebrate with a little cake and some special attention. I usually keep things low key for birthdays since my kids are still pretty young (almost 2 and 5). I make a cake and invite one or two friends. One year we had a playdate with a favorite family friend, another it was just grandparents and my best friend. Most of my family has birthdays around the holidays and it's too hectic to try and do a big thing. My birthday and my daughters are both between Christmas and New Years and that is just how it goes. Big parties are rare but sometimes you get extra presents (because of many holiday gatherings when you see a lot of people).

For a one year old? Heck yeh! Have fun, sing to him, let him smear icing on his head, he'll be happy....

He is only 1... he won't remember.... but, for photos sake and a scrapbook... just get some balloons, a cake, a candle for the cake, a couple of presents... and take pictures of him! And, make a handprint of him with paint.... as a memento of his age and for when he is older he can look back on it and have it as a souvenir...

I agree with everyone that's posted so far. He won't remember, and a party (for a one year old) is two or more people that are happy and celebrating his birthday. You don't need a lot of people to celebrate. Enjoy your little one!

I think that would be a perfect party for a 1 year old. Buy or make a cake, put a candle on it and take pictures of him attempting to blow out the candle. You can go to the $ store and get some birthday party plates hats and decorations if you want. You can also pick up a few little toys there for him to unwrap. That's all you need. He's just a year old. He won't remember it as he gets older but he will enjoy looking at the pictures.

You're being much too hard on yourself. He's 1 so he won't care or remember. Pretty much, the first 2-3 birthdays are for the parents. The kids really don't care who's there or what's going on. They just like to unwrap things and eat cake. Have a nice little party and enjoy yourself :)

Why do you feel bad? He does not know that he didn't have a party. If he doesn't have his own friends yet, and you live someplace where your family isn't, then I honestly wouldn't bother.
