Bed Linens

How often do you wash all the bed linens, the blankets, comforters, etc.?

Quarterly? Bi-monthly? Monthly? Weekly?

I wash my sheets weekly (every Friday), and I do my blankets and comforters (or covers) monthly. I I'm thinking of going to a bi-monthly system for the blankets and comforters. I don't want to have to replace them too soon! So I was just curious about what other people do.

If I had a maid, I'd have new sheets every three days. I don't care about them being "crisp," I like the smell the new sheets ;-)

What can I do next?

I TRY to do it weekly.

Side note: Did you see the show where Oprah said she needs hers changed every three days, because they're not "crisp" after that?
I'll bet she has someone to do it for her.
I hate that job....and I have to do it today! :(

Sheets, once a week. Blankets, according to how thick they are, how much they are used, etc. The comforter? Have to take that to the cleaners because it's too big for my washer. When I think I need to...

The new sheet smell is probably toxic chemicals you are inhaling. Most of the natural detergents do not really maintain much of a smell after they are washed. I was our sheets every 2 weeks or so and comforters maybe one a month. Sometimes every 2 months or whenever the cats throws up on it!

I change ours monthly. People used to change them weekly, but that was back when people bathed weekly. We also wear pj's, so our naked bodies aren't in direct contact with the sheets. Since we shower daily our sheets aren't getting particularly dirty.

The sheets and blankets are washed about every two weeks, on average. If the comforter or bedspread can get by a longer time, I let it get by.

Of course, everything can be laundered more often than that if it needs to be. But the "crispness" of the sheets doesn't have much to do with it. :^)

My children are grown, so I don't have the bed challenges mothers of young children have. When the young'uns were really young'uns, everything had to be washed every week.

I was talking to a DIL about this sort of thing not long ago. She mentioned that in her guest room, she puts on the clean sheets just before the guest arrives. I do it the other way: as soon as company leaves I wash the bed linens and make up the bed to be ready for the next guest. Seems to work well both ways.

Great question.
Our sheets at least once a week sometimes more ;-) if necessary.
Matress pad bi-weekly
Blankets as needed
Comforter and bedspread get dry cleaned quarterly or more if needed.

Will be changing the sheets tonight.

Weekly for sheets and mattress pads. Less than that for light blankets. Probably only at the beginning of the season for quilts, electric blankets, and other heavy items. Pillows we just buy new every 6 months or so.

I also dry my electric blankets but on low heat only. This is so they don't have so much static, the dryer sheets are basically why I don't just line dry it that one time per year it's washed.

BTW, my first thought was "When company's coming and they're staying here"...lol.

I wash sheets every week, mattress pads and blankets every month. Something you might consider is to have a down (or down alternative) comforter with a duvet cover over it. Then you can just remove the cover and launder it as you would the sheets. It's much easier than washing an entire comforter. :)

Comforters: monthly, but they are decoration for us. They lay folded to the foot of the bed. As soon as it starts getting colder, we'll use them, then it will be bi-monthly.
Fitted sheets, pillow covers, mattress protector, etc...weekly
Comforters, shams, throw pillows (that need to be dry cleaned): monthly, but we rotate our sets, so sometimes we do them every 2-3 months.

I aim for weekly on the sheets and pillowcases, but it's usually more like every two weeks. Mattress pads usually every month or two. And we use duvets, so the duvet covers get washed whenever I wash sheets. The down comforters inside get dry cleaned every few years.

Sheets, pillow cases, blankets all get washed weekly.

But, I cheat because I have two sets that I cycle through. So, I always have a clean set of sheets in the linen closet. It is easier for a quick change that way.

Um, I don't even use a comforter anymore - they don't fit in my washing machine and I hate the laundry mat - so I just use a king size blanket as a bed spread on my queen bed.

I hav numerous animals and they sleep in my bed, so I wash the sheets when they get furry.
I keep a sheet over the comforter because it's too big to fit in my washer and I don't want to haul the thing to a laundromat.
