My DS white baseball pants will be the death of me :) this is the first season he has had white normally his team is dark blue or black. 2 weeks ago he slid into home on his belly, which completely destroyed and stained the front of his pants with the "red" dust from the field.

No matter what I do the stain isnt getting any better. I have tried soaking them in Shout, using my OXI clean stick, soaking them in hot water with OXI clean detergent.. Washing them in the hottest cycle my washer has.

I cant bleach them because the tags specifically say to not use bleach..

Help

Thanks :)

I haven't had this experience but read that you can try using a paste of Cascade directly on the stain. Another says a paste of vinegar and baking soda. Quite a few say they still bleach the polyester pants even though the tag says not to. Also, I think the people that make CLR have a product called Stain Magnet that says it can be used on fabric.

Good luck!

I was going to suggest trying Dawn. It worked great to get sticker residue out of my daughter's favorite shirt that I thought was a lost cause.

I found this online:

Cover your work surface with a clean towel so red clay dirt stains don't transfer.

Wet the red clay dirt stain on your baseball pants with water, then apply enough liquid hand dishwashing soap to cover the stain. Work the soap into the stain and the fabric by rubbing the fabric together. Leave the dishwashing soap on your baseball pants overnight.

Wash your baseball pants in the washing machine as usual. If the red clay dirt stain on your baseball pants persists, mix a paste of powdered dishwasher detergent and water. Rub the paste into the red clay dirt stain and allow it to soak into the stain for three hours.

Launder your baseball pants again to remove the dishwasher detergent and remnants of the red clay dirt stains. Make sure the stain is fully removed before placing your baseball pants in the dryer.

My most effective stain remover is Zout.

My mom and aunts always used Lestoil on our stained clothes--especially our ball uniforms.

My son has had white baseball pants for years. Every year I have been able to get the red dirt out of them by using Simple Green. I find it in the automotive section at Wal Mart. It is a spray and is concentrated. I use it full strength. Just spray it on the pants and wash as usual. Spray it pretty heavily. It gets it out every time. You might have a harder time if you have dried the pants though. (Oh - and I have bleached my sons pants with no problems but it does not get all the red out.)

Real Simple Magazine did a "road test" of specialized laundry detergents. Their recommendations for workout wear and sports gear are:

Caldrea Palmarosa Wild Mint Sport Wash (scented)
Cleaned stinky sports tops smeared with dirt and grass (and sealed in plastic for a week to ferment!), imbuing them with a subtle floral fragrance.

Best for Workout Wear (Unscented)

Sport Suds
Completely eradicated odors and stains from clothes under the same rank conditions as described at left—and did a phenomenal job on smelly sneakers, too.

Fels Naptha. I get it at Walmart by the stain sticks. Wet the pants and rub with the bar. It works great when the stain is fresh, including grass stains but not sure about old stains. I also use Resolve stain stick when I can't wash right away. Rub it on and leave it to soak in for a day or two. Works great!

Chlorine bleach turns polyester yellow. Don't try that.

I've had success with all stains by soaking clothes in water and Oxy-clean; not the detergent, the stuff that's only Oxy-Clean. I sometimes have to soak them for 2-3 days.

If you've dried them, I suggest it's too late. Nothing will get the stain out.

Try a mix of hydrogen peroxide and blue Dawn dish soap. Or I would try a bleach pen right on where the stain is. I really don't think it would hurt anything.
