We are having my son's 3rd birthday party at the end of this month and we are considering hiring a balloon artist and/or a face painter for 15 -20 kids 5 and under for an hour. Can you recommend one for the party? What are their rates???

Thanks!!

Don't do balloons. Kids naturally put balloons in there mouths and suck and bite on them. The balloon can pop, get caught in their throat and then choke or suffocate them. Not a good idea. there was a case here in Chicago about 15 years ago that involved this type of accident. The kid suffered severe brain damage and ultimately died. Go with face painting.

I have never hired one, but I went to a b-day party recently and Mary Macaroni was there. She is more of a clown/magician and makes great balloons. I don't know if she does face painting. Her website is: www.marymacaroni.com

Hello, A.!

I would love the opportunity to work as a facepainter at your son's party!

I am an artist, a painter in fact, and I have done face painting as a freelance artist at special events, such as birthday parties. I am also an aspiring children's illustrator, author and singer. I am able to create very high-quality designs that would delight children and parents of all ages. I am a perfectionist and have a very high standard of excellence. I know you would be pleased. I also am a teacher by education, and have four children of my own, so I really enjoy working with children.

With 20 children for an hour I would have 3 minutes per child. If it is possible it might be nice to book a bit more time, but I am willing and able to work in the allotted timeframe.

Where will your party be located? I would like to offer you a reasonable rate, that you would be comfortable with. My normal rates are $110/hour, but I would be happy to offer you a discounted rate of $75 for 1 hour as a first- time client. You'll find that these are very competitive rates.

I use non-toxic face paints with vibrant, quick-drying colors, and they wash off easily with soap and water, which parents and children appreciate!

Please contact me at:

I look forward to hearing from you and helping to make your son's birthday tons of fun!!!

Thank you!
Gretchen
