Hi Moms,

This is kind of a personal issue, but I'm about to go see a doctor I'm not really comfortable with seeing and I'd like your opinion on the issue first so maybe I may not have to see him. After I had my son 2 years ago my back along the bra line was numb for a few weeks. I had an epidural when he was born. So here is my problem: when my back is tense like it is most of the time, I cannot where a bra without pain. I can wear a corset just fine, but those get rather warm and you can't sit for very long in them. I can where a camisole with support when I go to Tae Kwon Do, but other than that I can't where anything. It's getting the point now that my chest hurt because I have no support. Does anyone have any suggestions? I'd rather not see my doc if I don't have to because it's a veteran's hospital and I've heard way to many horror stories about their methods. I just want to be able to wear a bra again.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I've decided to see my doctor and at least see what he has to say. If I don't like it, then I'll go see a chiropractor and/or physical therapist and see if I can find out why my back is acting this way. Thank you so much for all your encouragement. I appreciate it.

I would try a nice firm massage with heat. Stone massage would do you wonders. It sounds like the muscles and nerves in that area need a little attention. After massage and you are still having problems - definitely go back to the doctor.

Hi E..
There are many reasons for back pain, and many ways to resolve it. This is an area where conventional and complementary methods can be very successful. I can make suggestions for both Physical Therapy and movement education with the Feldenkrais Method. I am experienced in both, and am a licensed PT as well as a Guild Certified Feldenkrais Practitioner. For Physical Therapy, you do need an MD referral. I hope you have someone you are comfortable with for primary care, or that you can switch to find someone you can trust. I live in the West End of Richmond and may be able to help if you care to explore these options.

Hi, E., Are you open to seeing a chiropractor? Massage therapist? Where do you live? I know some great practitioners who may be able to help. Maybe it would be good to see a doctor and get an opinion. You can always refuse a test or treatment that doesn't sound right to you. Good luck!

Dear E.,
May I suggest that you NOT see a doctor you feel uncomfortable with until and unless you DO feel comfortable! This is your life, your health, your body and you GET TO CHOOSE who you allow to help you!!!
Secondly, have you ever considered chiropractic? I was introduced to chiropractic in 1993 and, since then, have always chosen it over traditional medicine whenever appropriate. I absolutely LOVE chiropractic! Do ask for recommendations of those in your area! If you live in Richmond, I can offer some, so write back if you want me to do so!
Blessings!

Is it ANY kind of bra, or just a regular underwire that causes you problems? Maybe you could wear a sports bra regularly. I wear one every day because I'm nursing and it's so much easier and more comfortable than a nursing bra. Do you have one that's maybe a little older and a little more "broken in"? That would probably be best.

I do, however, think that you should see your doctor. I don't know what horror stories you've heard, but I've been in and out of military and VA hospitals and haven't ever had a real problem. Nothing that was their fault anyways. Give them a chance. I think you may find that they're regular doctors and nurses. A lot of the stories you hear probably came from Active Duty personnell and I'll admit that when I was active duty, I was treated differently than I was once I was retired. When you're AD there is still rank to contend with and military orders too, so they have a specific procedure system in place for AD people that doesn't apply to civilians. Give it a shot, what have you got to lose?

Sorry to hear about the problems. Have you tried a chiropracter or massage therapy? It may something that either one of them can help with, you'd be surprised at the problems that they can solve.
