In addition to what was stated earlier, I would also do baking soda baths. I think the recipe is like 1/2 cup to some warm bath water and let her soak in that.
My 9 month-old has what I thought was a diaper rash, but at her 9 month check-up, her pediatrician said it is a yeast infection and prescribed Nystatin to clear it up. It hasn't cleared up yet, and I've used the entire tube. I also tried Lotrimin and that hasn't worked either. I change her frequently and even let her go diaperless for a few minutes a day. She also eats yogurt every day for breakfast. Don't know what else to do. Any suggestions on how to get rid of yeast infections?
Thanks, moms, for all the wonderful advice! I called my daughter's pedi this morning and she put her on a different Rx. We'll try that and see what happens! I never knew there were so many ways to treat yeast infections! I'll keep them all in mind if we continue to have problems. Thanks again! -M.

I buy my family's vitamins and all of our bath & body, medicine cabinet, and household cleaning supplies from a company that is FANTASTIC!! My son DEMANDS his vitamins every single morning. They make a great probiotic that you can add to your daughter's food, but I would also ask her pedi to check her for celiac disease, because chronic yeast infections are a symptom of it.
Let me know what you find out...and you can also call or email me for info on the store where I shop.

My dtr had the same thing but she was one month old when it happened. My dr. prescribed simple "Triple Diaper Paste" and I applied it every 6 hours (give or take a little) and then every three hours he had me apply triple antibotic ointment. It cleared it right up. Matter of fact, for those first few months, I kept the prescription paste on hand because it seemed like she was easy to get an yeast infection, unlike my other daughter. Good luck!
There is also this powder you put in their food thaat helps. It is over the counter, but you have to ask the pharm. to get it from their fridge. I can't remember the name but it is the good bacteria that is in yogert that kills the yeast, they will know what you are talking about. My 3yr old had to take it.
I personally would get her some probiotics (or yogurt). You can also put the yogurt on her tush and see if that will help clear it up.
Also, have you recently switched diaper brands?
Hi M.,
I would suggest using a probiotic daily. My two are on one everyday...and it is doubled if on an antibiotic. The one I used when mine were babies was called Life Start. It is a great product, a powder that I mixed in water and used a syringe to give the girls. I buy it at Mike's Health Collection in McKinney but have also seen it at Market Street in the health food area near the pharmacy...if they don't have it in stock...they will order it for you.
My son had a yeast infection a few months ago and our pedi prescribed ketoconazole cream. If I remember correctly, it is a steroid cream and may be stronger than Nystatin. I also tried Lotrimin and it didn't do anything. The ketoconazole cleared his rash right up. I had to use it three times a day for two weeks, but within 24 hours of using it his rash was nearly gone!
I also used it for a day or two a couple of times later when a diaper/yeast rash seemed to be coming on. It works wonders on my son. My understanding is that yeast infections can easy reoccur.
I would definitely talk to your pedi about getting another prescription. Good luck!
Mu oldest daughter used to get frequent yeast infections. Her dr would always tell me to use regular monistat on the affected areas, then at night do the same but follow it up with aquaphor. It always went away. The only time he prescribed nystatin was to treat her when she had thrush and I had a yeast infection of the breast. But this is something I would definately check with the dr's nurse.
Try Dr Smiths it has always worked wonders for me and its a little pricey but worth it and use it sparingly. I know they sell it at Krogers in the baby section in a small plastic jar.
You should add some probiotic to her food at every feeding. You can pick it up without a prescription at the pharmacy counter - culturelle is one that has milk (my son had a food allergy so we ended up going to the Sunflower Shop to get our without milk. It really helps. Also, you need to put on the Lotrimin and then ON TOP of it put on Aquaphor or Triple Paste to seal it in from the wetness. If you just do the Nystatin it just comes off when she tinkles or gets poopy! Good luck - we used to get them all time prior to our daily dose of probiotic.

Janet is likely referring to Bluebonnet Milk Free Acidophilus powder - found refrigerated at many health stores. It's safe for the whole family. I buy mine at the Family Market in Frisco (on Preston near the mall) and add 1/4 of a teaspoon to water and drink (no taste). From what I have read, this is the best way to take probiotics. For a child (son is 2), the nutritionist there told me to cut it in half. I would double check the 'dosage' for a baby. Good luck!!!!
