Hello S.:
I love the baby einstein things... I haven't tried the videos yet because my son isn't old enough for them and honestly just doesn't sit still long enough... But i have the cds that i played for him from the time i was 4 or 5 months pregnant until now... We have certain cds for sleepy times and play times (because we would be lost without a schedule)... I don't have a lot of the other products but the ones that i do have we love!!!! They are simple and not too overwhelming like some toys can be for an infant. If you are looking at educational type toys like these i also recommend the baby leap frog products and the developmental toys (like the black reds and whites) for when he/she is young b/c for a while babies can't really see the colors well and the black red and white stimulates them.
Hope this helps a little :) Have fun!!

I too am pregnant with my first baby at 37 weeks. I am an NPR fan and love to download programs onto my iPod for walks. One show that I listened to on a Boston program, "On Point" had to do with these products (Baby Einstein) and I would recommend you take a listen.
http://www.onpointradio.org/shows/2006/06/20060622_b_main...
Another great site to find podcasts on parenting is:
http://www.parentsjournal.com/ Here you will find all sorts of great information that will last you until you say goodbye to your "baby" when he/she goes away to college.
I had put in a request for Baby Gear about a month ago and am pretty sure it is still on the site. Mommies poured in information!
Two products I am particularly fond of, however, are the Maya sling and a kangaroo wrap gown. These two items are part of the kangaroo care or attachment parenting philosophies where skin to skin contact is especially important.
You can find Maya slings on E Bay and the kangaroo wrap gown (they have shirts too) can be found at www.preciousimagecreations.com.
Anyway S., it's a very exciting time and this site is a fabulous resource for us soon to be mammas, that is for sure!
Best to you and your fam!

Hi,
My name is J., I am a 31 y.o. single mom of my daughter Gianna. She is turning 3 in 5 days! It goes by so fast! Anyway, I just wanted to let you know, I absolutely LOVE the baby einstein line of products. The DVD's are excellent, from the age of 6 months, they mesmerized her. She still watches them, though not as much since she is older now (she has graduated on to the Little Einsteins). I have the whole DVD collection, and most of the books also. I recommend them to all of my pregnant friends. They are very educational and I love the classical music. My daughter learned her numbers, shapes, colors, etc. from watching the videos. Hope this helps!

Well it looks like I'm the only one who isn't thrilled with Baby Einstein. When I was pregnant I thought they looked great but didn't get any videos because several friends said I could borrow theirs. I ended up checking a few of them out from the library and just wasn't very impressed. They seemed very disjointed to me and my husband felt the same way. We love HBO's Classical Baby and Praise Baby. I'd recommend getting a few things from the library to see what you like and also wait until the baby comes to see what s/he like. :o)
As for the gear, my son loves his Neptune turtle with the teething hands and feet. He also loves his Netptune waterproof flip book and "reads" it while he's on the potty.

This is my first child, too. I wish you lots of luck! Being a mom is great....just wait until the baby starts to smile at you! It's awesome!

I LOVE the toys, they are extremely well made and actually not as expensive as some others. My son's favorite are the fabric blocks, they have a duck that quacks and a frog that when you pull its leg, vibrates. Books are great and my son hated the videos until he was about 9 months and now laughs at the puppets and everything. They are made to help with developement so I dont feel guilty when I put him in front of the TV when I am cleaning or cooking. Hope this helps! OH yeah the baby gym was my son's FAVORITE when he was a newborn until he was about 6 mos, the pillow is great for tummytime and you can switch out the toys when they seem to get bored with them

I love them ...... My daughter is now 2 and still watches them! My mother-n-law bought all the sets at costco .... she is a 3yr old preschool teacher and likes that sort of stuff. My daughter has been watching them since she was ummmmm 3 mts old. Its not like she was really watching them .... but it keeps their mind and coordination working. example ...... everything is shot really close up so there might be a train on the screen .... and like i said close up so its moving from corner to corner across the screen and you can actually watch their eyes follow the objects and their head move to follow them. It plays very relaxing classical music and has great colors! It was always something I could put on to get dinner done. Like I said she still watching the dvd's to this day!! As far as the cd's go .... I have the set as well and really dont use them so much. I would advise not getting those so much as trying a set of the dvd's. When you start off make sure you get the earliest set ..... i think its 0-3yrs. They get more advanced later on like teaching the seasons and farm animals..... but like i said before i never felt bad putting her in her bouncy and letting her watch them .... she was going to sit and occupy herself anyway while i cooked or cleaned or even just needed a break..... so i hope this helps and good luck!!!

I LOVE their products...I was never a fan of propping your child up in front of the tv, but it is all music and just things babies love. I would put it on for my babies right before nap time to soothe and it worked like a charm. I still turn it on before nap time and for my kids...they also learn sooooooo much from them. My son could name his planets before he was 2. It also gives you 20 minutes to clean if needed and definately as a first time mom, you'll want that time. My son is almost 4 and still enjoys them, my daughter is 18 months and her favorites are the animal ones. I would recommend: baby bethoven, neighborhood animals, world animals, baby noah, baby galileo, baby words mouth and baby mcdonald..

I am positive that my now three year old began learning her numbers, shapes and colors from watching the Baby Einstein DVD's. Elmo and Barney helped after that. My now 20 month old is still soothed by the Baby E. DVD's when she is fussy. That is one way we can tell if she is seriously sick. Good luck and Congratulations!

Hi, I recommend purchasing the Baby Einstein videos. They are really engaging and they grow with your child. You can also check out the Brainy Baby series. Depending on your area and cable/satellite provider there is a channel called Baby First T.V. They have a series of nightime programs that are MESMERIZING for very small children. The black/white/red colors and shapes really enthrall tiny baby. Most of the other programming is geared toward older children but there is really good parenting information available. My daughter also likes some of the Baby Einstein Books (especially Mimi's Toes for bathtime). Some peopele feel very strongly about not letting babies/children watch t.v. but you have to do what's right for you. And that goes for ALL the advice that you're going to get from EVERYONE and their brother ;-) Enjoy yourself. Congratulations.

Hey S., my 3month old just loves the baby einstein play and activity gym. It has such bright colors and a star that is motion sensored and she just stares at it all day! The star is detachable and I put it on her car seat when we take trips, keeps her busy at the right times. Also, the dvds are great. I put her in her swing when in front of the tv with the baby mozart and I can get some housework done! I recommend anything baby einstein. Buy some batteries if you get the play gym. The star runs out fast. I bought mine from Target. Good luck!

So looks like I am going to be the odd ball here and say that I do NOT recommend baby einstein DVDs..
My daughter is 2 and LOVES Them. However, she is OBSESSED! She is obsessed to the point that she cries when you show her anything else. She just yells "baby einstein baby!" If you need to buy yourself like 30 minutes, it is very entertaining, but with the exception of a few of them..they are mostly just entertaining. I don't find them very educational. There is one about orchestra which is nice, one about colors and counting. But most of them just play music with pictures that don't correspond to the music. If you have a very young baby and you want her/him to have something to watch while you are busy, okay...but don't fool yourself into thinking that they will learn much from these. They learn more by just pointing to items and telling them what they are! I highly recommend the your baby can read series and I've heard good things about the leap frog series (but I havent watched those yet).

Hi S.,
I have a 20 month old and I am pregnant with my second(29 weeks)I have purchased the baby einstein cd's and they are good, but my son really enjoyed and so did I, the three disc set called Classical Baby, it seemed to sooth and engage him much better than the einstein. I also purchased the floor mat from baby einstein, it kept him very entertained, can't wait to break it out for my newborn.
Hope that helps.

I LOVE them all!!!! Both of my girls (now 4 and 2) have watched their media and still, on occasion, watch them. We have them all because we have chosen not to have cable. We only have a TV for videos/dvds. They get about and hour a day of TV. As far as the music-GREAT. We listen to classical during the day in the car and they can identify the "real version" of the song as well as the composer!!! I never much used the baby gear, as it was not really available with my first child. But their media, FIVE STAR products, no doubt!!!Their flash cards are nice also. Beautiful pictures!

I like the baby einstein video's. I have a 4 month old and due to her gas problems needs to sit up (with help) for approx. 30 min after she eats. What I do is put one of the video's in and when it's done all of the gas is out. By the way, I purchased 21 new different baby einstein video's on ebay for $65. This is MUCH less than the standard price of $15 ea. Be careful about the dealer you choose though, I read that some of them will send you video's that cannot be played in English but I did not have that problem.

Hi! I actually love the baby einstein products. I had my first baby on 8/03/06 and my best friend gave me a baby einstein cd at my baby shower. All of the books say that listening to classical music with your baby is a great developmental tool, so I have been. We usually listen in the morning because the cd that I have (baby Mozart) is "upbeat." It is a great way to start the day for both of us. My son and I dance around the room and/or I let the music play while I change his diaper and rock with him in the morning. My best friend babysits for 2 children whom she says are captivated by the dvd's. If ever she needs them to sit still for a little bit, she puts on a baby einstein dvd. I hope this helps you make your decision.

Hello,
I am a big fan of the baby einstein videos. I would start your baby with them as soon as possible. Our daughter started watching them at about 3 months and she is 4 months now, it is amazing how attentive she is to the video. It is nice to give you a little break to get some Mom stuff done, which you will need. Let me know how is works out!! Good luck with your delivery-everything will be fine...( I know I needed to hear that from someone that just gave birth!!)

Baby einstein is awesome. Babies love the colors and the music. And as bad as it sounds, you will need a "break" every once and awhile. It is not like putting them in front of the tube to watch scooby doo. My son also has the Baby einstein exerscauser. He is begining to sit up and loves it! The first time he was in it he was in there for 3 hours. We would go to take him out and he would pitch a fit.

I definitely recommend Baby Einstein. My daughter started watching them when she was 2 months old. I love how they catagorize each DVD for the appropriate age, and if you sit and watch it you will find that they teach your daughter/son while they are fascinated by the colors and motions.
I would rate them as an A. My daughter also enjoyed the baby einstein play gym. Their products all seem to be fun yet educational.

Good Question! The Language Nursery Video is the very best! I began watching it with my son at 6 months. He began speaking very early and has always been quite articulate. My son particularly enjoyed Baby Galileo as well, but all the videos were helpful, fun learning tools.
I also recommend the Talking Hands Video to help your child communicate with simple hand gestures as they are also learning to make sounds.
Best wishes,
D.
ps. You can use the Baby Einstein Board books that go along w/ the videos, too, but they're not necessary.

If you have cable or satilite GET BABY FIRST CHANNAL, it is GREAT. I have it for my kids and they love it. It teaches development, numbers, Alphabet and everything. It is better then einstein movies and shows. Other wise the einstein toys are ok but there are other toys out there that are just the same but cheeper. Walmart and Target have a good selection.

Hello,
I think the all of the baby einstein products are great.
my daughter loved the videos. the visuals and music are wonderful. she loves listening to music and singing. and she loves learning.
I would definately recommend them. its not about them watching too much tv. You can put it on and sit and interact with your baby or if you need 20-30 minutes it will definately be very stimulating thing to keep your baby entertained.
They even have so many more things now; flash cards(which are great) and lots of different toys.
I wish you the best of luck with your 1st born and remember to always follow your motherly insticts; no matter what anyone thinks.
