We got one for our son. My Husband did a lot of research and it seemed to make sense. We noticed the difference as soon as it was on the mattress I could not smell anything on the top of the mattress.
Anyone have any experience with BabeSafe mattress-wrapping? Is it worth the money?

read briefly about it, but it seems its made out of plastic type material? that is going to leach fumes as wel;l. EIther way help by covering whatever you decide in an organic mattress pad or better yet just invest in a wool mattress as it will have NO flame retardants!
Hi Terri!
I totally understand your concern! I admit, I have never heard of nor tried this though. You definately made me curious so I have done a bit of research since reading your request.
Seems like everywhere it says that it can not be proven nor disproven though. I do plan on doing even more research into it though since I do have a few baby showers coming up and this would be a great gift if I can find enough info proving it. I would hate to buy it and give a parent false confidence thinking thier child was safe and it may still happen. I think I may be more likely to buy a monitor like the one I have or a brand new mattress instead though after reading that it is less likely with a new mattress.
One of the statements that I keep reading that makes me very leery is there is 0 crib deaths if the mattress was correctly wrapped. Ok... so to make that number 0 if it was 10 did they just say that the matress was not wrapped correctly if any deaths did occur to make it 0?
Also, they say that SIDS is a possible result of the fire retardants used in the mattresses of today and since around 1950 or so. I have relatives who have had 3 babies die unexpectedly before age of 1 before 1950. SIDS can happen for reasons besides crib gasses.
Also, another thing I keep reading is how the gases are heavier than air and that they lay on top of the crib mattress. Ok- seems like that may be possible. Although gavity would push those down to the lowest point. When you have a gas leak outside your home do you think that the gasses are going to sit on your picnic table or is gravity and the weight of it going to push it to the absolute lowest point such as a ditch or basement? Also, if it somehow is possible wouldnt a ceiling fan on low help to push them off so they continue on to the lowest place to settle? Just some points to consider!
Also, your son is almost now at an age where he will be learning to roll over and according to the FAQ he will be able to "alert" you if he is having a hard time breathing or has a headache etc.
I am very iffy on this product. When it seems too good to be true, it usually is! But, is it worth the money???? I would have to say yes, if it gives you some peace of mind and allow you to sleep better there is no price that can buy that!
One of the things that I bought was a Bebe AngelCare Monitor for my daughter. It detects any motion in the crib. If there is no movement, including breathing, for more than 20 seconds it alarms (if you use a fan in the room you have to set the sensitivity differently). This product has been a life saver to my daughter, literally. She will be 3 in August and I am still using it in her toddler bed and I will use it in her twin bed when she moves to that (have to figure out how to there yet). She goes into anaphylactic shock at night sometimes for unknown reasons and has stopped breathing and sometimes will barely be breathing and her BP is so low and becomes hypothermic. This was my false sense of security that I used and am glad I have it! I do not know how many times we would have "lost" her had her alarm not gone off to warn me of problems so I could then take her to the ER for treatment. Look at BabiesRUs for some reviews and info on that product. To me, this makes more sense but costs more also.
I hope you find the info you need to make you comfortable and give you the peace of mind you obviously need! It is so stressful as it is having a new baby... shoot, it is stressful having a 20 year old too! You will always find new things to worry about!
Many blessings to you and your family!
did some research and found a company in the US that has basically the same product but designed it as a one size fits all and it is less than half the cost. I think I spent $21 total with shipping. They even donate a cover for every cover purchased. Found them here: http://sidsmattresscovers.com
I haven't tried it but I do know that in Australia it is recommended by the government to reduce SIDS so more widely practiced and their rate of SIDS is lower.
We have one. I had never heard of them until we were given one when we were expecting our 2nd child. My husband put it on incorrectly, so I ordered another one.
We figured the cost of it was the cost of a dinner out.
We wanted to use it because 4 years ago, a co-worker of mine lost their child to SIDS. 6 months later, another co-worker lost their child to SIDS. When stuff like that happens, it makes me re-evaluate our what we are doing. If $35 will help prevent that tragedy in our house, then we will do it. Our thoughts were better safe than sorry especially since we were reusing the crib mattress.
