I am around 7 weeks, and for the last week or so I am nauseous ALL DAY> I never vomitt although I feel like I could any second. Smells are very intense, and the thought of eating most food also makes me gag. My Dr. said there's really nothing to do unless I start getting sick. But I keep reading that B6 helps. She said that was fine to take. But my question is what milligram? I've read around 75 mg a day, but when I went to but it I could only find 100 mg. Have any of you used B6 for this reason, and what dosage did you go by? I'm desperate for a little relief. I feel like I'm glued to the house because I feel so crummy. Thanks!

What can I do next?

C.- I didnt get sick with my Daughter but with my Son I was extrememly sick! They only thing that helped was ginger. I drank ginger ale, I went to HSU company and bought ginger chew candy (They are in a little box) anything ginger will settle the stomach. It helped so much! I never tried B6 but I would use Ginger. Ginger Ale or I had Ginger suckers. It did seem to help. I was super sick with my 1st puking all the time and super nauseas with my 2nd. Really nothing will make it go away but time! Once you get out of that 1st trimester...13-15 weeks you will feel better. I know that doesn't help you now but it helped me knowing it was only temporary. Good Luck!

I had hyperemesis for my first 2 pregnancies and for my current one. Basically I throw up non stop and lose a ton of weight and get dehydrated all the time. My dr told me to take B6 25mg 2 times a day. I had to get a prescription for it cause I couldnt find anything and even my prescription I had to break in half. You could also try eating lemon things, like homemade lemonade or my dr suggested lemon cough drops. Ginger is also known to help. Most doesnt help me but I have a very very severe case of morning sickness. I am 19 weeks and have thrown up 4 times today, which is pretty good for me! I hope you feel better soon!

Have you tried ginger? It's safe with no particular dosage.
Use in a tea, or ginger candy. Works for motion sickness too.
I always keep some in the car.

I haven't tried anything like B6. I didn't even know it was a possible help! =0)

When I was pregnant with my first (12 years ago) my nausea/vomiting wasn't too bad. I dealt with it okay and it was tapering off, but then I got so sick from a migraine that I couldn't stop vomiting (for several days), so my doctor gave me a scrip for phenergan. It is an anti-emetic (stops vomiting), but he told me that it was safe while pregnant and would help with morning sickness too.

With my second (3 years ago) I was so sick the whole pregnancy, that my OB/GYN gave me a prescription for the same drug (only generic this time). It worked again. I'm currently pregnant with #3 and my doctor gave me the same drug. My nausea has been intermittent and always at bedtime interfering with my sleep. This is a problem because I homeschool and have a toddler. The only drawback is that it makes me sleepy. If I need it during the day, I try to avoid taking it unless I'm severely nauseated and/or there is someone else at home with me to keep an eye on my toddler.

That was the only thing that worked for me. I split the pill up into fourths (yes, it is a pain) and took 1/4 in the morning, another in the afternoon, another in the evening. Good luck-- that is the worst feeling!

I am 23 weeks pregnant and my nausea started with full throttle at week 4 that lasted up to week 9. I am lucky one who found "No to morning sickness tea" that eased me completely. Also, ginger ale is helpful.

I used a folic acid/B-12 shot during this pregnancy for the help with nausea. Make sure you take it with a protein (the shot). Ask your Doc to write you a prescription. It helped me a lot. I was still sick but it did help a lot, good luck!

Hi C.,

Oh, I feel your pain:) I've been there. Although I didn't take B6, I continued taking my prenatal vitamins which do help. What really helped me though with controlling the nausea were the following: sparkling water was the best for my nausea--it's no calorie, no salt and the carbonation works wonders, melons such as cantaloupe and watermelon, papaya extract tablets, lemonade, and Sea Bands (wrist bands you can buy at the drug store and they really work). Eat small meals, not big ones and follow your cravings. Your body knows what it is doing, so if you crave proteins for instance, eat proteins. Proteins also help with the nausea. Here's also something that my doctor suggested and even though it is a little strange, it provides instant relief in a pinch: place your index and middle fingers across your belly button and you should feel some relief, or you can grab your wrist and apply pressure--strange, but it did help some. If your nausea gets worse or progresses longer, the doctor can prescribe Zofran which helps take the edge off.

Congrats on the new addition:)

Hello, Welcome to the wonderful world of pregnancy. It's all worth it though so hang in there (no pun intended).
You are right that the B vitamins can be helpful with nausea but you will want to take a complete B complex with all the 8 essential Bs, the way they were created. B complex can also be beneficial for the formation of protective antibodies & healthy red blood cells, helps prevent birth defects, cervical dysplasia, mood changes and normal growth in children so there are many reasons to take it.
The best one I've found is made by Shaklee and here's were you can get it: http://changinglives.myshaklee.com/us/en/products.php?sku...
Best of everything to you and your precious family.

I'd ask your OB/GYN before you start supplementing your B6 just to be safe that certain levels are not unhealthy during pregnancy.

When I was in chemo last year, I had pretty bad nausea, but it was completely in my head. No matter how good the drugs were, I would get sick with certain smells. Since you're not actually getting sick (though you feel very nauseated), I don't know if medications/supplements would help.

The mind is a very powerful thing, though.
I hope your body cooperates and helps you get past these awful feelings soon.

I tried it with my first pregnancy as i was physically sick through the full 9 months at 100mg, but it didn't help. I tried it with this pregnancy as well with no success but at least this one let up at 13 weeks. Some people swear by those bracelts for motion sickness, but that didn't help me either. Good luck i couldn't find anything to help.

My midwife actually gave me B6 injections which helped a lot--but I'm not sure dosage--perhaps contact some midwives in your area to see if they give the shots. I was so sick through about 16 weeks--I feel your pain. Also, prenatals made mine much worst so I quit taking them till I felt better (bec. I was throwing them up anyway). Someone suggested pineapple and it has the properties that make me think it would work (digestive enzymes), but at the time I couldn't gag it down.

My OB Nurse just recommended B Natal Lozenges that you order through your pharmacy. It's a B6 lozenge. You don't need a prescription. Hope this helps.

Can you take any of the anti-nausea medication? Zofran or Phenergan?

hey there! i am 8 weeks along and NAUSEUS ALL day long too. It sucks, especially when you already have little ones at home! I take zofran and phenergan and it helps take the edge off-- I am able to function enough to go to work. Also, Twinings herbal revive tea with lemon and chinese ginger will ease my stomach sometimes. We have to just stay strong... the first trimester sucks!

I took a multi B for the first couple of months of my pregnancy and only the B. I had the same nausea all day and the B REALLY helped. The B vitamin is one that your body passes if it has too much of it. So when your urine is pale in color it means you are low in B; brighter color is the B passing.
Good luck.

I know vit are important when you are pregnant... if you are taking your prenatal vit you might what to talk to your doc before adding any other vit to the mix - she should know what mil is safer then we would. Personaly, prenatals have always made me sick... they have tried giving me so many different ones over the years & this being my 5th pregancy, they gave up on trying to find a "good" one for me that doesn't make me sick. I try to eat healthy & take an over the conter vit - but not everyday. My doc's figure I've had 4 healthy & nice sized babies (3 at 7 lb 4 oz & an 8 lb) - I must know what I'm doing with the eating thing at least.

I have learned - that is with this one that peppermint & ginger seems to help. I have peppermint candies everywhere (kitching, livingroom, purse & car) So that if I start to feel nauseous I can pop one in my mouth and it really does help it go away. I've been told mint or ginger teas also works along with ginger ale and ginger cookies. To be honest - I tried it just to make someone happy... one of thouse people that always have advice for everything even if they've never lived it & was really suprised as to how well it works.

I also understand the smells thing... I think that is one of the hardest things to deal with at the beginning of the pregnacy. Usually that is the first sign I have that I'm expecting... my hubby laughs because I tell him "my nose is smelling everything - I'd better take a test" & it's usually positive when I'm smelling everything.

Good luck with the nauseousness and concratz on the pregancy!

I'm not sure about that, but I felt the same way. I am currently 21 weeks and felt HORRIBLE for the first 13 weeks or so. I also felt terrible ALL day. I read that a little lemon in your water helped. the thought of it made me sick, but I tried and it helped. Good luck and feel better!

Drink chamomile tea (iced or hot, whatever feels good for you) and get some crystallized ginger. This was proven on Myth Busters to alleviate nausea way better than meds and other different products. Ginger is safe for pregnancy and natural root that is in most Asian meals.

Here are a couple sites for crystallized ginger:

I had the exact same problem for three pregnancies. I never took B6 as I wasn't really getting sick either. THe smells were killing me, I couldn't go grocery shopping. It was awful! There were two things that helped. One is pepto bismal, but you should use it sparingly as it isn't considered "great" while pregnant. But the second was my own personal life saver, smelling cut lemons. I know it sounds nuts. But it cuts through any smell and really took the feeling of needing to get to the bathroom away. I literally kept a lemon half in a ziplock in my purse. It may not help you at all, but as I'm told it is a common homeopathic remedy for women in our condition. And at this point I imagine, you will take all the help you can get. Good luck, all you have to do is get to week 15. It will get here before you know it and you will feel worlds better.

I also had hyperemesis and ginger seemed to do the trick for me. I was prescribed phenergan at a low dosage, but I seldomly used (only twice.) I was reluctant to resorting to meds, but with hyperemesis it was torture! I started with ginger ale and then switched to the capsule form (health store.) I steered clear from citrus fruits. The ginger helped me a great deal...after 6 mos. w/ hyperemesis within 2-3 weeks I was able to get out & off the bathroom floor!

Hang in there...hope it helps! Worth a try...

Congratulations!

Oh, I feel your pain. With my first child I was sick the whole pregnancy. We lived in Missouri at the time and I found a Pharmacy that makes an Anti-Nausea Capsule that contains the following:
Vitamin B-6, Vitamin B-12, Folic Acid, Calcium Carbonate, and Ginger Root. They have many morning sickness patients who have used it with success. You use one capsule 2-3 times a day as needed. Back then the cost was $30 for 30 capsules, $55 for 60 capsules and $80 for 90 capsules (I'm not sure if their prices have gone up).
They ship all across the country, and accept most insurance plans for reimbursement.
Your doctor will have to write you a perscription for the capsules even though they aren't harmful. She could fax it to them if needed.
Here is their information:

BELLEVUE PHARMACY SOLUTIONS
1034 So. Brentwood Blvd. Suite 102
St. Louis, MO. 63117

800-728-0288 or ###-###-####
fax: 800-458-9182 or ###-###-####
____@____.com
www.bpharmacysolutions.com

Here is what is in their Anti-Nausea Capsule:
B-6 - 25 mg
B-12 12 micro grams
Folic Acid - 0.5 mg.
Calcium Carbonate - 200 mg
Ginger Root - 250 mg.

Because I was sick the whole pregnancy I was eventually put on Zofran that they give people going through chemo./radiation. That really helped me and I was able to function again.

Hope this helps!
Good luck and Congratulations! :D

First, Congrats on being pregnant! The first trimester can be hard, but you can do it! Even thought food doesn't sound good, it will help. Try eating a little something every two hours. If I let my stomach get empty I would start to feel really bad. Also, try the sea sickness bands. you can get them at walgreens or any drug store. They look like wrist bands and they have a little bump on them for a pressure point. They are supposed to help with the nauseous feeling.
