Has anyone used Azo tablets? I get a few yeast infections every year and happened to see these pills at Target. Does anyone know if they work or if they have any side effects? Thankss!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you everyone for your help! Just to clarify, the Azo tablets that I have are specifically for yeast infections, although I now realize that they make another kind for UTI's too. I don't currently have a yeast infection, but I do get lots of them. I haven't had any problems with Azo yet, but I did pick up some Acidophilus today too to try, as many of you suggested. I am not a huge yogurt fan, but I'm also going to try to eat some regularly, as well. Thank you so much for all of your advice.

Yes, I take one daily. I used to get a lot of yeast infections, and this seems to prevent them very well. I also wear only 100% cotton underwear and wash all of my laundry with detergent free of fragrance and dyes. As far as I know, you don't have to worry about side effects with homeopathic medicines.

I have never heard of them, but you can ThreeLac (works well) but is expensive. Or GSE (Vitacost has it) it is Grapfruit Seed Extract and taken a couple times a day it is really good at preventing yeast and for a number of other uses as well.

Please do a little research on candida albicans and take it seriously! The yeast infections reveal that harmful bacteria has a foothold in your system. It takes a special diet (no grains, sugars, fungus, yeasts...) and heavy probiotics to get yourself back into balance. My sister let this go too long and is seriously paying for it now. I urge you not to just try to treat the symptoms of the yeast infection but to truly find out what is happening in your body so you can rid yourself of the cause. I would personally work with a doctor that will treat it naturally instead of a standard MD who would tend towards a "slap a drug on the symptoms but cause bigger problems down the road" approach.

Here's a very good website to start with: http://www.bodyecology.com/

Buy acidophilus tablets and take them. I had the mother of all yeast infections after being treated with IV antibiotics. Even prescription medication didn't work. I took the acidophilus tablets from the vitamin section of the grocery store and they cleared it up completely. I've been infection free for 5 years!!

I have used AZO tablets but for urinary tract infections. I was never aware that they were for yeast infections. They are great for a temporary fix for urinary tract inf. If you have a recurring problem with yeast infections, like I have, I reccommend getting some Acidopholus capsules (you can find them almost anywhere-WalMart,grocery stores) and take every day. They are also referred to as "probiotics". You need these healthy bacteria to ward off yeast infections. They have helped me tremendously! Hope this helps,

I don't know what Azo are but I take acidolphillus every night. This is a pill format of live cultures that are in yogurt. My doctor is aware that I take this and is fine with it. You can find it at Target in the same aisle as the other vitamins.

Good luck.

I don't know about Azo tablets, but when I developed reoccuring yeast infections it was because my blood sugar was high. You might want to get checked. I haven't had one since.

It looks like others are giving you the same advice that I am going to give. I swear by acidophilus. I used to get them all the time then I started taking acidophilus. Now I think some juices, milk and yogurt contain acidophilus. Sometimes it is called active cultures. Don't ask me why, but after I had my first and only child I quit getting them.

While the azo tablets will take away the pain they really don't do anything for the underlying issue. If you truely have a yeast infection try the monistat otc 3 day treatment, if that does not work, contact your doctor and ask about diflucan.(It is a one pill treatment that works wonders.)

I agree w/ the acidophilis, as well as other probiotics, as it restores the good bacteria. I've never heard of the Azo tablets, but I wanted to share a personal story:

My mom used to have infections all of the time. She was later diagnosed with 'candida in the bloodstream,' which is a yeast problem. Since she's been taking Reliv, her body has been able to heal itself, and she hasn't had infections since she's been taking it for the past 5-6 years. It's a whole nutrition product that is in the form of shakes, so that our body can actually absorb the nutrients (which include good enzymes etc.) Because of the results that we've seen with our families and others, I've become affiliated with the company, and would be happy to answer any questions that you have. 30-day money back guarantee on all products, so you can't go wrong.
Wishing you the best!

J.:

I fought with recurring yeast infections last year. I kept getting them on and off for about six months and they would not respond to standard medications for yeast infections. I did a lot of research on the internet about natural remedies. I tried the AZO tablets, but they didn't really make any difference.

I agree with the person who said that yeast is a symptom of other underlying problems in your body and that it is best to find a natural solution. The medicines can give you side effects, and may not completely eliminate the problem you are having in your body.

I completely changed my diet, cutting out all sugar. For a while I cut out both refined sugar and more natural types of sugar. I continued to eat fruit as long as it wasn't sweetened with anything. I also cut way down on the amount of dairy and wheat, since I had read that these could also irritate. However, I ate plain yogurt everyday--mixed with a little fruit, cinnamon and ground flaxseed. One additional benefit of all this is that I lost weight. It is very hard to change your diet, but I was in such pain that I was willing to do anything. I also tried many other remedies such as grapefruit seed extract supplements, hydrogen peroxide treatments and tea tree oil. In the end, I don't know what finally worked for me. I think maybe the tea tree oil and the change of diet were the most effective. You can buy tea tree oil at a health food store and apply it to the affected area.

I have been free from infection for about 9 months, but continue to eat very low amounts of sugar in my diet because I am scared of having it come back. And I also continue to eat lots of yogurt--my favorite kind is Stonyfield Farm (more expensive, but worth it). I also eat a lot more organic products and less processed food.

Another thing that I did when I was having this problem is that I wore mostly skirts and if I wore pants I made sure they were all cotton. I also wore only nightgowns to bed a night.

If you decide to eliminate sugar, make sure you research about different forms of sugar, like high fructose corn syrup, fructose, etc.

Best of luck. I feel for you, because I know how difficult that problem is. It affected almost every aspect of my life and made me kind of a grumpy mom. I hope you can find a solution.

I've tried them before for urinary tract infections. They helped a little, but I had to give up the 2x I used them and see the doctor for antibiotics.

Not that it's the same, but I've been looking up yeast infections in dogs (we have a little dog we got from the shelter and she gets yeast infections on her skin). I looked at www.earthclinic.com and found information about apple cider vinegar and yogurt, which I'm going to try for her. There are a lot of entries on yeast infections in women too.

Best wishes on finding a good remedy. :)

AZO is just concentrated cranberries. it helps more for UTI's & kidney infections & helps keep your kidneys & urinary tract clean. your best bet is to get the 7 day pack, the 1,3, & 4 day packs don't keep the meds in your vaginal cavity long enough to clear infection. good luck, i had the first one ever in my life a few months ago from being on strong antibiotics & thought i was going to die. before you take any homeopathic meds, you can go to PDRHEALTH.com & it gives all the possible side effects of herbs, vitamins, over the counter meds & prescription meds. there's also a book you can buy after s&h it's like 5.00, it's called "the complete guide to herbal medicine". it has everything in it, it even tells you what meds you can't take with them & their side effects.

I have not used the Azo for yeast infections, but yogurt works great for me. I get a yeast infection every time i am on an antibiotic, and have tried eating yogurt all the time now and it has seemed to help keep them at bay. I used to not be able to eat yogurt because I thought it tasted nasty but I have found the whipped yogurt. Love it. I don't know if that helped or not but that was just my experience.

The Azo tablets are usually used for urinary tract infections. I think you should try what the other ladies suggested, eating yogart with active cultures (make sure the label says active cultures) and the pills (acidophillus.) You could also try calling your dr's office and seeing what the nurses sugggest.

I think the only yeast infection I have had (other than from antibiotics which I try to start eating yogart the first day. Sometimes I stop taking the antibiotics before they are gone, which I know is bad but really the alternative in my opnion is worse!!) was when I was 10 weeks pregnant!! I had no clue, my dr told me when he was doing my ultrasound (I was a little embarassed!! My mom and husband were in the room.) Anyway he gave me a perscription that worked wonders, just one dose!!

Hope this helps, good luck!

They work just like the tablets that you get at the doctors office that turns your pee orange! They do the trick and relieve the discomfort.

Hi J.,

Christine B. is right about the Stoney Field Farms yougurt. They have Yo Mommy for women and Yo Baby for...well...babies. The natural cultures in the yogurt helps regulate the yeast in your body. Yeast infection is caused when a lack of bacteria in your body creates an over abundance of yeast. Thats why alot of women get yeast infections when they are on anti-biotics. The organic yogurt has natural pro-biotics that help regulate that.

As to the AZO, I have only heard it used for UTI not yeast. Try the yogurt and lower your carb intake which actually creates yeast.

Hope this is helpful.

I too have struggled with yeast infections. After I had my first child I stopped having them. Unfortunately after I had my second child they returned! My infections also did not respond to the over the counter treatments (burned like I was on fire!) and it seemed that they would recurr. You need to work with your doctor. The best treatment for me was finally to take diflucan every day for a week and then once a week for three weeks. As a side note ask your doctor to prescribe the diflucan in 100mg pills.....the "typical" prescription is for 150 mg pills to treat yeast infections....the problem is that the insurance companies require you to jump through a bunch of hoops to get your prescription filled if it's written for 150 mg tablets. If they write the prescription for 1 1/2 tablets of 100 mg pills then it will go through a lot easier. Hope this helps....

Hi J.,
I've never heard of using Azo for yeast infections. I have used it for urinary tract infections to deal with the discomfort while waiting for antibiotics to work (and it's are wonderful for that). For yeast infections, I always use Monistat. You might want to ask your dr or the pharmacist if it can be used for yeast infections.

All my best!
