Anyone Try Hcg Therapy for Weight Loss?

Hi Moms,
After having my baby I'm having the hardest time losing weight. I think i looked thinner when I was pregnant than I currently do. Not sure if this has anything to do with me having a tubal ligation (which I googled and seems many have the same problem). Was wondering if anyone tried hcg therapy for weight loss? If so, is this safe and does it really work?

I haven't tried hcg. This is what I started:

3 years ago I dropped 42 pounds AND KEPT IT OFF! I use this system as my health program and I am healthier than ever.

If you want to know more about it, just ask.

I do not know about HCG but I completely emphathize with you. I feel like with both my kids I gained a good 20 pounds AFTER they were born that first year because I was not taking care of myself and just worrying about the baby. So I have started doing something that my employeer is doing called one simple change. Every month I pick one thing to work on in relation to my health and add a new one every month. Recently it has been excercising. I printed myself a little calendar I made on excel and I am using up those left over potty training stickers to put one on each day I work out. It totally seems childish and silly but I LOVE putting my stickers on my calendar and I feel so much joy and satisfaction doing it. And I feel so good. My workout is so not traditional. I am acting like a kid. I am doing my daughter's Disney Groves Dance Dance Revolution on the wii. Dang it makes you sweat but it is so fun. If my kids would let me I would do it all day! I don't feel like I am exercising except for the sweat. In case you do not get the answers you are looking for re: HCG I thought maybe this could help you. Good luck!

I just worked on a website for a natropathic doctor who does this HCG weight loss therapy: http://portaltohealing.com/weight-loss-therapy.html She has a lot of info about the therapy on her site. I had never heard of it, so I asked my endocrinologist, whose opinion I trust. He said that the HCG tricks the body into thinking it is getting what it needs so it doesn't move into starvation mode. I believe the hormone is produced for babies in the womb, so it is a form of growth hormone. He said that it is effective, but hard to stick to. You only eat 500 calories a day.

I asked the naturopathic doctor about it, and she said her clients have had excellent results, not gaining the weight back. I think gaining it back is dependent on whether you make lifestyle changes that support a thinner body.

Hope this helps.

R.,
I actually looked into hcg - had the same problems you are experiencing. I wasn't able to afford the hcg, so I followed the rest of the rules (whole foods, smaller portions, lots of water...) and I started to gain weight! Doesn't make sense huh? I was extremely frustrated and at a loss for what to do. I have tried so many other diets and exercise programs, but nothing truley worked.
My girlfriend who had a baby the same time I did was losing and she was on Weight Watchers, so I decided to try it out. I have lost 45 pounds and I'm still shedding. First thing that has ever worked for me. I did it mostly with out exercise, I say mostly because I am now playing tennis and walking.
I hope you find something that works for you. Keep me posted.

From what I understand, while it seems to work, it is like any other fad diet and you will gain the weight back as soon as you quit the diet. It also really restricts the number of calories you have each day to the point where you are starving all day. I've also haerd it makes you very irritable. I urge you to speak with your Dr. before you even consider it.

I love Weight Watchers because it's more of a lifestyle change than a "diet."

Good luck!!!!

Remember there's no magic. But what you CAN do very easily is figure out how many calories/day you eat. Then simply cut out 200 to 300 calories/day and step up your exercise each day, all day! If you just lose a pound a week, but steadily, you'll be fine. Slow is the way to go, and everyone knows - permanent! This is a way to do it while still being yourself. Big deal diets will be successful at first, then fail miserably - don't do it! Be smart. It WILL work.

Happy 4th all,

R., being the professional dieter for all my life, I had HCG Therapy to lose weight. I lost tons but the shots became less effective towards the end. When the shots stopped, I gained it back as rapidly as I took it off and then some. Yo-Yoing is very dangerous. The HCG program is also bad for you unless they are now advising exercising while losing. Here is why:

Lets say you lost 20 pounds doing any kind of dieting without exercise. 10 pounds of the the 20 pounds was water (blood, lymph, etc.), 5 pounds was fat, and 5 pounds of muscle was lost! When you gain the 20 pounds back, and most people aren't exercising when they regain, you gain back 10 pounds of water and 10 pounds of fat. This is why the BMI Charts are not that accurate. This Yo-Yoing is also why if you do this over and over again, you can't fit into old clothes even though you weight the same when you bought them. It is also why you always gain a little more because you are eating like you used to but there is less muscle to burn it up. That repeated 5 pounds of muscle out of 20 you lost and never got back really messes up your metabolism because the fat that replaced the muscle takes a fifth of the calories you muscle required and takes up more space then the muscle took up before. That's how we get sloppy fat.

Bottom Line: You must burn up more calories then you consume and to maintain muscle mass you must exercise, be it walking, swimming, yoga, etc.

I have lost 146 pounds in a wheelchair. I use Debbie Seibers Slim in 6 Videos and modify all her moves to a sitting position. I am half way to my goal weight. You see being in a wheelchair expends very few calorie so without moving my arms and body for half an hour a day, I became a fat magnet. I got into this wheelchair obese with horrible fibromyalgia and ate like I was still walking. My doctors promise me that if I lose all the weight I might walk again even though I'll still have fibromyalgia. Fibro makes you hurt more from exercise when you begin but you even feel worse if you skip a day not exercising. I found I don't mind exercising as long as I have variety. So I joined a weight lose club on line for $2.99 a week. You can also join for free but you don't get all their fantastic bells & whistles. In fact, I became a coach in this club because I could get really great deals on exercise videos and nutritionals that as a coach, I could write off as a business expense. I also love inspiring others to lose weight and eat healthier. So I'm being paid to lose :^D

I don't try to loose weight any longer. Look into NAET.com for allergy eliminations. I am losing weight and starting to love my body for the 1st time in my life. All of my physical problems were due to allergies.

Be well.

Some great advice from posters here. I agree with one of them that it boils down to not having/taking the time to take care of yourself after having little ones. After 2 boys in just under 3 years and having NO family/friends help between myself and my very busy (with work) husband the lack of sleep and stress take thier toll.
I believe that portion control and getting some fresh air and exercise (even if it's just a walk and 3 pushups) everyday is the recipe for success. This makes you feel empowered and more energetic which seems to lead to your taking little 'me' breaks into your harried schedule - even if it's only to clip your nails!
That said it took me 2 years after my second child to have my hormones really return to normal - this seems like a long time esp. after only nursing for 9 months but it's true. I'm now (with only minimal effort) back within 5 lbs of my prepregnancy weight and just now feeling like I've got the energy to really start getting toned up and healthy again (getting some decent sleep now).
So don't be too hard on yourself and give yourself time. Little changes that are manageable are best. Soon the babies will be grown and we won't remember that extra weight - just miss the softy cuddles.
