My granddaughter likes to play Minecraft. All 3 of the other people that live in my house play it all together, linked. I'll hear my husband yell from one room to another "STOP LETTING THE ZOMBIES IN MY HOUSE"!!!!
I am just curious if anyone's daughters, nieces, etc. are into playing Minecraft. My daughter is 6 and got introduced to it through other kids at school earlier in the year and for Christmas we got it downloaded it on our PC for her. We set limits on her playing time, and she also gets into watching videos about playing it by "Stampy Longbottom" or whatever his name is. She makes her own Minecraft comics, she wanted a Minecraft t-shirt (and got one) for Christmas, and she wants a Minecraft-themed birthday party this summer.
She's a happy well-rounded kid, doing really well in school (first grade) and does gymnastics and soccer. I am not at all concerned, I just know Minecraft seems like something more boys are into and not so much girls (or at least not the girls I know). She just seems more into video games, like Minecraft and Super Mario, then most girls I know. Anybody else have girl "gamers" too? :) Honestly, it makes me kinda proud of her, that she's into that instead of princesses and Barbies ..I wonder if she will end up being an engineer or software designer some day.

Well, all the neighborhood girls here where we live love to play Minecraft. I don't think of it as a boy or girl game. From watching the kids that come over to play with my son, they all equally love it.
Gamer family here. PC games, console games (xbox and the like), indy board games, pencil and paper roleplaying games. We do it all.
I prefer playing Minecraft on the PC, the XBox makes me dizzy. We play with our girl most of the time. Good days at school she can play by herself for an hour.
She loves the videos, but be careful not all You Tube video's are G rated even if they are Minecraft themed. I've had to worn my daughter about that.
Mine's 7. :)
My daughter has always been into whatever interests her. Doesn't matter if that is legos (Bionicles for yeeeeears, and they didn't come in "girl" colors), or electronics. And yes, Minecraft. She is 12 now, and 2 years ago was playing with her older brother and another older boy in the neighborhood. They'd build stuff together, or steal from each other, lol.
She also has (girl) friends who played. I remember taking the 4 of them (her and her friend and son and his friend) to the movies over Christmas break, and in the car, they all had their devices out playing Minecraft together.
You never know about the engineer stuff. Who knows. I have no idea if this interest is some sort of precursor to her having that kind of mind. My daughter used to want to be an airplane pilot (to deliver mail she said). Of course she also used to want to be a vet, and a farmer (so she could have cows and pigs and chickens). My daughter's "challenge" teacher used to refer to her as "my little engineer" but I don't know that it has anything to do with Minecraft. ;)
My just turned 12-year-old daughter is playing it right now! She can play for hours if I let her. Now, she's playing on a server that her 15 year-old cousin in Iowa set up. So their characters are playing in the same "world". Her cousin is already a computer programmer, building apps for his dad's company. I don't see a down side to this game, really, unless it takes over their life.
yes my 2 girls love it, 6 & 8
One of my girls, 15, likes to play. But she is not a true gamer. She plays on her Ipod when she is not animating or drawing. But when she does get into it, hard to get her out.
My daughter is 7 and loves this as well. I never really thought of it as a boys game. I also limit the time since someone can easily spend all day playing.
My daughter is also into princesses and Barbie but I don't mind.
My 9 yr old girl is a total gamer. She and my hubby are 2 peas in a pod! I don't like to label things as "girl" or "boy". She like what she likes!

Yes my daughter plays it and with her brother and with her Dad.
They all play it.
At the school I work at, many girls play it too.
Its a game and is not gender based.
And it is not just a "kiddie" game.
It is a very good game... which is an open ended game. Meaning there is no CERTAIN way you have to play it and there is no "end" to the game. Each person creates, things which they think of themselves and problem solve themselves. It is very outside the box. Some make literal things. ie: replicas of hotels or pyramids or the Great Wall Of China. Or some create, "scenarios"... which is the way my son plays it. Scenarios which is from his own imagination.
Even adults play it. Man. Or woman.
Each person plays it differently.
My son even creates his own Tutorials on it, and "publishes" it. He is very tech savvy. It impresses us. And we supervise it and he creates his own ideas for it. And it also teaches him programming. He figures out how to do something in the game, by prompts or programming it. And he will also do research on it, if he wants to do something in the game which is not obvious.
The game teaches kids a ton. In many facets. On many levels.
It is not just, a video game.
And some schools even have their own clubs or servers, for their Minecraft club.
My 11yr old daughter, and many, many of her friends, and my 7yr old niece are all into Minecraft. They build some of the COOLEST stuff! One of my daughter's houses had a roller coaster that takes you around the property.
It's one of the many things she loves doing.
Minecraft players are hardly "gamers." And yes, thousands of girls play Minecraft - my daughter is one. Since when is it a gender thing?
Yup. Actually all four of my kids ages 12-19yo love it! They play on our ps3.
my daughter plays sometimes more than her brother. :)
