Anyone Out There Had Varicose and Spider Veins Removed?

I'm curious to know about your experience with having your varicose veins and spider veins removed from your legs.

I talked to my doctor about it and she said 'don't bother-if you have the bad gene for veins then it isn't worth it-they will just come back.'

But then I see all the vein clinics and websites and wonder: if that is true then why are all these people having it done?

So I'd like to hear from someone who has had the experience. Did unsightly veins return quickly after your procedure? Do you think it was worth it?

Actually, your doctor is right. It all depends on whether the reason you have them is genes and how large/deep they are. Tiny ones may never come back no matter if you have the genes for them. Large ones may, especially if you have the genes for them. I know 3 people that have had this done, one with varicose veins. Most of her varicose veins stayed gone, a few returned about 8 yrs later. The other 2 people I know, one had them come back but very light. The other had very faint lines like I do on my ankles and they never came back. I have thought about doing it myself but not sure I want to bother.

As for all those places that can get rid of them, of course there are a ton of them. We are vain (no pun intended--lol--just realized that) about our appearance and if we can improve something we try.

I had a few procedures done. I had the laser treatment where they close the main vein feeding them and then I had the stripping where they make incisions and pull out the varicose veins. I had it done two years ago and am pregnant now, which i've heard sometimes you get new ones during pregnancy...i dont doubt i will...but i wouldve gotten MORE instead of J. some new ones had i not had the procedure. I plan on getting the new ones removed and doing the treatment for the few tiny spider veins i have after I'm done being pregnant. for M. it's worht it even if they come back in a few years...that means a few years of M. not being so upset by them

also i will say its not perfect. i have very pale skin so you can always see normal veins in my legs, i asked the dr to remove them and he looked at M. like i was nuts saying they are normal healthy veins. So you can still see some veins in my legs, but so much less and there are no more popping out like they used to. also they hurt way less. the varicose veins hurt a lot for M.

I had some really ugly, but small, spider veins on my leg. My dermatologist mentioned that they were small enough to be treated with a salt-water solution. She injected them in her office. It hurt like hell, but it was over really quickly. They turned dark for a couple months and then they were gone. This was about 5 years ago. They haven't come back. I do think it was worth it, although I probably noticed them more than anybody else did.

Here's some info from web-md that explains it better than I can.

My cousin had it done. Her's came back.
Her father, my uncle had ginormous ones, which he has never had treated. They are a sight to behold (not in a good way).

Best,

Yes, some of these procedures work, your doctor is wrong. What area are you talking about?
