What to Do About Vein-Y Legs! Please Advise!

Hi Moms. I have had vein-y legs for many years now. Sad thing is, I am in my early 30's! I just am so embarrassed to wear skirts, shorts, and dresses. Every year when the weather starts to get nice, I dread thinking about having to show my legs. They look a little better if I get a little bit of a suntan. About 2 yrs. ago, I tried the laser therapy (2 sessions) and I don't think it made much of a difference at all. I don't really have the type of veins that are "raised" off of the skin, more of a lot of spider veins. Some are really dark. SO, my question to all of you is: Has anyone tried vein surgery or have suggestions for alternative methods to make these ugly veins disappear? Especially any economical ones:) Thanks Moms!

I had the same problem and last spring I got the saline injections that everyone is talking about. The medical name for the treatment is sclerotherapy. The price range is about $250 per session and you may need more than one session, depending how bad your veins are, although I seem to recall only paying $250 and getting 2 or 3 visits included with that. I went to Dr. Pearce at Northwestern (downtown). The results were astounding and I could not believe I hadn't done it sooner. I will probably have to do ths again in the future since the results are not permanent, from what I understand, but so far so good. Good luck!

Hi R.- You and i are in the same boat. I have tried the saline injections because mine are very bad. I have had probably 15 visits done and that is the easiest most economical way but there are no results on long term studies.

I have been doing research on Dr. Rivard out of Midwest Vein Clinic (google it and it comes right up) and there have been write ups on this new procedure that is supposed to really help. Most insurances will cover this procedure. I have yet to make the jump. Right now because I am very natural, I am taking a homeopathic oral chelation that has been helping but the process is slow going and using a topical that my right arm who owns a health food in Niles recommended.

I can give you the names of the products if you want.

I have the same issues- "Thanks Mom"! :)
I use the Visibly Fit body lotion from Mary Kay. I actually have seen the improvement of the darker patches. I also have before and after pictures done by a MK director. It's one of the reasons I began my own Mary Kay business. It works great.
If you are interested in trying it, go to my website
www.marykay.com/kathibutts
All of our products are 100% satisfaction. So if you don't see a change(within a month) you can return it! Can't do that with store bought stuff.

Hello R.,

I am not sure if you have ever heard of Arbonne, but they have a great product supplement that you can take to help with varicose veins or spider veins that I have heard gives great results. It is a botanically based product that helps strengthen the capillary cells and reduces fluid leakage. And it very affordable. You can check out their website at www.arbonne.com and they have more info on this product. My Mother-in-law used it, and seen results. Please let me know if you have any questions! Oh, and I can show you how to get a "whole sale" discount too. Wish you the best of luck!

R.,

No one is perfect and I am sure you have lots of positive qualities to make up for those veins. Check out the healthy legs website and try support hose that go up the the thigh. That will help with circulation and minimize them getting worse. Think about all the amazing things you body does and has done, like supporting a life.

I have quite a few spider veins too! I mentioned them to my dermatologist, and she recommended saline injections, which aren't very expensive and they work. When I was at her office last time for another issue, we tried it out on one of my veins. She doesn't recommend doing it in the summer, because it makes your veins brown and then they dry up, so they get a little uglier before they go away. It worked nicely on the veins she injected so probably once summer is over, I'll have some more done. It hurts a bit, and after she is done injecting the solution, your leg muscles cramp up. I go to Northwest Dermatology in Hoffman Estates, and my doctor is Deborah Beaird. Good luck!

Hi R.,

I am 33 now and last year had Varicose veins stripped (removed) and spider veins injected. Im not really sure what some of these other women are speaking of going back 15-20 times. For the spider veins it cost me $200.00 for both legs and I only went once and they were gone. I beleive the price is $200-$400 depending on how severe they are. They inject you with a solution so the shots do pinch but it takes about a 1/2 hour to an hour and then you wear compression hose for 3 days. I will continue to get this done if I get more veins. You do bruise (everyone bruises different) and they will stay a few weeks. I went to Dr Ryan in Gurnee.

Vericose Veins are aweful...they have been passed down through the women in our family forever. I have had much success with this fantastic product from Arbonne...it is their BioNutria Leg Vein formula. This product fights vericose veins by containing an effective level of horse chestnut seed extract that helps strengthen capillary cells and reduces fluid leakage....Definitely worth trying before more intrusive therapy. All of Arbonne's products are botanically based, pure, safe, and beneficial for you!
Check it out at www.kristenstemple.myarbonne.com and click on shop online to browse the catalog. The Leg Vein Formula is in our Bio Nutria Longevity section. I wish you luck with whatever you choose! I know how frustrating they can be!!!

Hi R.,
When I was 32 I went & had injections of saline solution in my spider veins & it worked beautifully. I had quite a few so I went for 4 different visits at $250 per visit. The number of treatments will depend on how many spider veins you have. After I had my children I had some more pop up that I need to take care of, but it is not close to what I had initially. The Liposuction & Cosmetic Surgery Institute did my procedures. Dr. Leon Tcheupdjian ###-###-####.

I have spider veins as well, some of which hurt. I have not done anything about it yet, but my mom did. The ONLY thing that helped was sclerotherapy. I don't know if that is the correct spelling or not, but it's at least phonetic.

This is the therapy where they inject saline into the veins every week until they disappear. She got I think about 40 shots in each leg every week, but the veins are gone. Her problem was medical (she has circulation issues in her legs), but insurance wouldn't cover this treatment as they consider it strictly cosmetic (jerks). Perhaps the rules have changed, as it's been at least 10 years since she had the therapy.

Good luck!
