Are there any companies that consult at home if they are too sick to leave or in the hospital?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you everyone! My friend got out of the hospital and was able to go wig shopping a couple of day ago. It looked so cute people did not even know she walked out with it on.

As was mentioned by one of the other moms, there is a wig store in Lewisville. It is simply called The Wig Shop and is located off of I-35 and Round Grove Road (across from Vista Ridge Mall). The people there are wonderful and absolutely work with cancer patients. If they don't go to hospitals or homes, I bet they would know how to facilitate something...they really seem very caring and helpful.

I'm going through cancer myself. While I don't know of a place that comes to you, the people at "All About You" in Plano might. Their phone number is ###-###-####. The ladies I've met there are extremely sweet and helpful. You can also order wigs and other products through the American Cancer Society at www.tlcdirect.org.

Also maybe give some thought to scarves and very comfortable hats. I found going through chemo when I felt really lousy I wanted something more comfortable than a wig.

I wish your friend all the best.

I'm a mom of a wonderful 12-year-old girl and married to a terrific guy. I just finished six rounds of chemo, getting ready for 30 rounds of radiation.

When I went through my treatments for breast cancer, I shopped around at a couple of different places. There is a great shop in the Baylor-Sammons Cancer Center in downtown Dallas that provides great service. I shopped at the store in Lewisville that was mentioned, but it felt really clinical to me, though their natural hair wigs were gorgeous. I went with synthetic. Mimi's in Richardson had the best assortment of head scarves, hats with comfortable bands to keep them on your head (great even if you still have your hair!), and tons of wigs, too. My insurance covered $100 toward a wig, which helped a ton. I named my wig "Tess", since I felt like a different person with it on!

My friend just went through breast cancer and survived...she was stage 4 even! My friend's insurance actually covered the cost of the wigs because they can be expensive. I think I remember her saying that there was a wig store in Lewisville and they were accustomed to working with cancer patients. Maybe call the store and ask them about your situation. Also, the insurance might tell you where to buy the wig. keep being a good friend!

Hello,

When my mom had cancer 2 years ago, they did keep a supply of donated wigs at the treatment center. You might check with the patients dr. They will have some very good resources for wigs.

There is a GREAT wig store in Colleyville in The Village - Cheveau. It is owned by 2 wonderful ladies that are such a delight to talk with. They wear different wigs all the time to just change their style. They even have "parties" where you can go in with friends and try on a bunch of wigs to see how you look...make it into an event...and have fun picking out wigs. Let me know if you need their number.

My mother-in-law had breast cancer and was able to choose a wig for free from the Sammons Cancer center. They have a system in place for getting wigs to patients. I think the office was on the basement floor of Baylor's Sammon Cancer center. You might call them and ask. If I remember correctly, when she was finished with it, she returned it for others to use. You might be able to choose several, let her try them on, and then return what didn't work. Good luck!

There's a store called Mimi's in Richardson at Coit and Campbell...the staff is great and they are very very nice and the wigs are great too. You can call and see if they have any staff that makes house calls. Also, when the purchase is for a medical reason, such as cancer, they will have you fill a form and you will not have to pay sales tax on the wigs. They wigs aren't cheap - around $350 - but they look fanastic. My mom has bought 4 from there.

Hi,

I am not sure how it works for adults dealing with cancer, but when my oldest daughter had cancer, they had a wig company talk to us at the hospital.

It's very possible that through the hospital, there "care specialists" can help her find a wig company.

Have you checked with your friend's doctor? The doctor should be able to connect you with a local network. Some churches have a cancer support group. Check with the Catholic Dioceses. Never know till you try. Good luck!
