Anyone Know About Walmart Price Matching and Walmart Layaway?

I want to go do my thanksgiving shopping at Walmart and I'm taking ads in from Food 4 Less, Albertsons, and Vons to price match them. I would like to be able to get the $7.00 turkey deal @ Walmart even though it's offered at Vons. Do I need to go to customer service first and let them know that I will want price matching or is that done at the register? Also for the deals that the other stores give you if you spend $10.00 will Walmart also match that? As for lawaway I'm guessing that you pay 10% down of the total purchase plus $5.00 but can you put anything on layaway? Like I want to get my daughter a new booster seat along with toys and clothes and items for other people can all of it go on layaway? I would like to get the bulk of my Christmas shopping done, put it on layaway, & make payments until I have to take it out. One main reason for this is so that I don't have to store things for very long as I really don't have the room. Any tips for me?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks everyone. I did put a bike and a couple of toys on Layaway. Wish they would have let me put more on layaway and they would have made lots more money. I wasn't brave enough to do the whole price matching thing yet especially with it being so busy in there last night.

Walmart will only match exact brand to brand and for an exact price. Like if Lego's are on sale at another store for 10% off they will NOT match it. If another store has store brand mac and cheese on sale for $.33 per box they will NOT match it because the other store brand is not Great Value.

So, if the add for Turkey is for a name brand that Walmart has in stock then they should match it. I have had to argue with managers before though. I got sewing patterns at Walmart and wanted them to match Hobby Lobby's add for $.99 each. The cashier called the manager on duty and he said no, Hobby Lobby was not considered to be a "competitor" so they did not match with their sales. I got a $20 gift card out of it from the main store manager when I complained about the issue. I had bought many patterns before, Hobby Lobby would often run out of the ones I wanted and Walmart always had a lot of them. Even the ladies back in fabrics said the little manager was in the wrong.

So, to be specific, I would take the ads to the service desk and ask them specifically about each and every one of them so I didn't waste my time shopping and then having to keep everyone behind me in line waiting while I showed the cashier the coupons and then got refused and had to have the item taken off and out of the sacks.

Often Walmart prices are less than other stores even after the discounts are taken off. At least that is my experience when price matching.

Layaway is VERY restricted this time, Only toys and electronics, maybe one other department but not anything else is allowed. Also each item has to be over a certain price or it can't be put in layaway, here's a link.

I do the price matching all the time at Walmart. You take your adds and they take care of it at the register. One suggestion is to keep all the items you are price matching together at the end or the beginning, that way it is easier for you and the clerk. I don't know if Walmart will do the $ matching thing so I wouldn't count on it. Also if you have and add that says "buy one get one free" Walmart will not match that unless the add also says how much "one" costs. I don't know the answers to the rest of your questions :)

Price matching is done at the register. To my knowledge things like spend 10$ and get this item for free or whatever are NOT included and you do need the ad. I did it just last week on a bunch of toys. Tell them as they ring up each item because it needs to be done when the item is scanned during the transaction. I made a list and it was pretty simple. Lay a way is toys and electronics and jewelry only as far as I know. Not sure about the cost of using it.

Be careful with layaway. I know you don't want to store stuff, but often times stuff goes on sale for a better price than what you got it for on layaway, and they may not price match their own prices. Since you have to pay by 12/16, money people on the morning shows say to just save up your money that you would use for making payments, and buy the stuff later when you are more likely to get a better sale.

Don't know about the price matching. For layaway it is only for electronics, toys and jewelry. Also each item has to cost $15 individually. There is a one time fee of $5 to use layaway. You can add to it at anytime you want as long as the item(s) meet the requirements. You have until Dec. 16th to pay and collect your items. Not too clear on the cancellation rules or if you miss the deadline rules. So you might want to look into that part of it.

With price matching, they have matched great value before where I live, so it does not hurt to try it. I think alot depends on the cashier. I always separate my items and do them last. I heard target is doing the same, but it may only be at supertargets.
I did layaway. Our walmart said only 15 and up, but I was able to put toys that were under. I paid $5 then 10% and it must be paid for by dec 16 or you lose it and get a refund. Not sure if they refund the deposit.

The only problem I had with Walmart was Black Friday price matching. Toy'r'us had a Leapster super cheap on Black Friday and since I only wanted that one item from them I did not want to stand in that super long line. So I decided to head over to Walmart so that they could price match the leapster. I knew exactly where they were because I was just there the day before looking at them. (they had about 5 or 6 in stock) GUESS WHAT!!! They were out of stock the morning of Black Friday - of course!!! I went the next day just to prove my theory and there they all were back on the shelf. I could not believe that. I would have been surprised if they received a truckload on a Friday night.... Good Luck!!
