Are You Using Layaway?

I LOVE lay-a-way back when they had it, then it went away for a few years. I think I like it mostly because it gives me a place to HIDE everything. Wal-Mart just got it back, so I think I'm going to head there soon and start getting some things for the kids! Are you going to take advantage?

What can I do next?

Yes, I will be using it! I think it is great! Wish Target did it. I am going to do the clothes part and maybe some electronics at Sears too
..I think?

The 'hiding' function is a great perk! Love it how its all boxed up and its almost like Christmas for me and hubby when we open to wrap it and we get to see all the things we threw in the cart :)

I'm sooo happy that Sears, Wal-Mart and K-mart have layaway!! It's really helping for things we "want" but don't "need" since we are a cash only family and it keeps us form storing Christmas presents in the attic...

I'm almost done with my shopping...need to find a pair of house slippers for Bob and tool he was wanting...then I'll be done!! YIPPEE!!!

Santa puts his gifts in layaway. :) It keeps me from having to be creative and find new hiding spots. Then they just get picked up from layaway, taken to grandma's to wrap in red wrapping paper, hidden in big black trash bags in her basement, then I pick them up on Christmas Eve day and I am good to go. :) Love that Walmart brought it back this year. The only thing better for me would be Target.

I was sad it was only for three departments, and the restrictions of 15+ in value for each item. I really didn't need much in the departments they listed, I wanted to put a ton of housewares on layaway. If anything we are considering putting a small flat screen tv on layaway for our daughters room.

I will not be using it. Personally I like to get the items, pay for it right away and hide or wrap it right away.

Layaway is the worst idea ever...Layaway actually got me fired from a job (I was the customer service supervisor and two customers called up and complained I put their layaways back...this was a mother and daughter so it was the same layaway. Well I didn't even work on the floor or backroom. So how exactly did I do this!) I cringe everytime I see the Kmart layaway comercials (I worked at kmart after getting fired because of the layaway incident) So many people puts things in layaway and ignore the fact that they are suppose to make a payment on time. When the payement was 10 days overdue we had to put the things back, and people would get mad about this! Well they signed a contract that said exactly this would happen. Also around christmas so many people put in layaways that there is no room in the layaway bunkers that things have to go upstairs on pallets, which leads to a big mess. And most of the people who put in those layaway would cancel them later!

Personally I've never used and it and really couldn't understand why anyone would. I just remember seeing the long lines at the customer service desks.

So I read the responses. I agree that the biggest advantage, would be having a hiding place, other than that, it just seems like too much work having to go back and make payments, make arrangements if the price gets lowered or item goes on sale, waiting in the long lines. NOT for me.

My problem with shopping early and layaway is they haven't begun putting things on sale yet. All the really good stuff and amazing sales come out closer to Christmas. I know, if something goes on sale, you are supposed to be able to request they lower the price, but as it gets closer to Christmas, the lines are going to be insane and no way will I stand in that line to ask that they mark something down $5. And I am not organized enough to continually watch ads to make sure it didn't come down. I may put the big deal purchases, like a bike on layaway. They aren't likely to bring out a differant bike I wish I had gotten instead.

Nah. I've never been much of a "layaway person".

Although the "hiding spot" is a GREAT function of layaway, now that you mention it!

I don't start shopping early nor do I have what could be considered *close* to a "game plan"......
