Anyone Home Schooling Using the Waldorf Philosophy?

I home school my almost six year old, but am looking at trying to home school him using the Waldorf principles. He has bipolar disorder and gets instantly frustrated with trying to do anything too "traditional." When we do a lot of hands-on, he does better. I like how Waldorf is fine arts driven and fits our more AP lifestyle. Does anyone have experience with Waldorf? I am just wanting some more information about it and how it works in a homeschooling environment.

I have incorporated a lot of Waldorf elements into my home-school curriculum and I really believe that it is the best option out there. I also think it is the most fun way to watch a child grow.

One thing to know is that if you Waldorf in a school or at home and follow the curriculum, your child will not be ready for public school until at least the third grade. At that point, many Waldorfers are prepared to blast past the curve. They've got a fantastic foundation.

I wish that Rudolph Steiner had more influence in all educational circles.

There is a great home-schooling Waldorf community in Austin. There used to be a small one in San Antonio, but it has disbanded. I wish you the best!

If you live in Austin, particularly South Austin, there is a large group of homeschooling moms. They have a very organized enrichment program as well. You could call the Austin Waldorf School--###-###-####--and they could give you the phone numbers. If you are not in Austin, look in your directory for a local Waldorf school and they will most likely have information for you. Good Luck!
