Anyone Go Through This Too?

I am 4 months pregnant with my 2nd child and noticed that I am thirsier at night for some reason. About 20 minutes right before I go to bed I all of a sudden get really thirsty which of course makes me have to pee even more at night. Then when I get up to pee my mouth is dry and so of course I am still thirsty. I drink throughout the day and never had this to this degree with my first. I know its probably normal but I just want to make sure. Thanks for your help. :)

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

So far it looks like that even though I drink all day running after a active toddler I wasn't drinking as much as I thought so as I was slowing down getting ready for bed I was able to notice that I was thirsty more than I was able to when I was thinking more about what my daughter needed than what I needed. :) Thanks again for all your imput. :)

Yep...I'm 6 months preggers and I have been waking up in the middle of the night ridiculously thirsty since early on. It helped me a lot to only drink a small amount of water when I do wake (a couple of ounces). I still have to get up at least once but it is better than what it was. Also, I do not have gestational diabetes.

I went through this and found out I had Gestational Diabetes. I would talk to your doctor about it.

I went thru this and had gestational diabetes and fortunately, no problems. It could just be a pregnant thing as your body does need more fluids. Put your mind at ease and talk to your dr.

Funny about the nudist colony and don't blame you!

I went through this my entire pregnancy and now I'm breatfeeding and still it is happening. I asked my doctor and she said I could possibly be dehydrated. So just make it a habit to drink lots of water all the time. I know you might start feeling like a water bed.(haha) As long as you keep the fluids in you everything will be ok. i still get up during the night to go pee and drink water. My daughter is six months old now.

no help with the thirst thing but I wanted to say that your "A little about me" line is hilarious and I cracked up when I read it. Great sense of humor!!

i'm having the same thing with my second pregnancy that i didn't have on my first. i noticed that it got dramatically better as the pregnancy progressed (especially around 6 months). i don't think i did anything different but my body required less night-time water. hopefully it'll get better for you too!

I totally went through this with my 2nd pregnancy. It's a bit annoying, but just know that it's a normal thing....especially if you crave sweets. Also, I have some maternity clothes if you're interested. Mostly casual...capris, shorts, short-sleeved shirts, some dressy outfits....dress and long-sleeved shirt and pants. If you're interested, then call me at ###-###-####
Thanks,

Hi A.,

Normally, these are signs of gestational diabetes, which is not a HUGE CONCERN, BUT it does show signs. You are suppose to have your "orange drink" around your 24th or so week, to check on that, so if you are 20 weeks, you may want your OB to go ahead and do the test now. Check with your OB about these symptoms. I had them too and then had preemclampsia on top of GD w/ my pregnancy. It is easy to control w/diet and you need to rest a bit, but you should be ok. Check w/your Doctor.

Good Luck and don't worry too much. It can be controlled.

I did that exact same thing, and I have a friend who is pregnant with her second saying she's doing the same thing and didn't with her first. I think it's normal, but you can always talk to your doc.

I do remember being extra thirsty with both of my children. Drinking more water during the day seemed to help, but I still slept with a waterbottle by my bed every night long after they were born. I remember being up at least every two hours to use the restroom through both of my pregnancies. I don't think it really has anything to do with gestational diabetes. Your OB will check you anyway, and if you are really concerned, go ahead and let them know.
