Anyone Experience a Transverse Baby That Turned Before Labor?

I had an ultrasound at 35 weeks and the DR said that my baby was lying sideways. My doctor said that she could turn breech, but that he would try to turn her if that was the case so that I could avoid a c-section. I'm seeing him in a couple of days at my 37 week appt. and I'm sure she's still sideways because I see and feel her hiccupping - sometimes she switches sides! This is my 6th baby and I could never SEE my other babies hiccupping because they were always head down at this point. I really want to avoid a c-section, and my doctor is not one to do them unnecessarily. What have you ladies experienced in your pregnancies with transverse babies turning before labor began?

What can I do next?

Hi there! Congrats on your 6th girl!!! I have not experienced this, but I do know of exercises that you can do to have baby turn. I took Bradley classes and my amazing instructor taught us some positions to do if baby was indeed transverse. Try google-ing it and also look under Bradley positions or something to that extent. And it really does work a woman in the class before me had a transverse baby, and i think there was one in my class too, who ended up giving natural birth to her baby girl thanks to the positions she did before labor and during labor. Congratulations and good luck to you!

I had a version done with my breech baby in order to avoid a c-section. It was pretty painful, but it worked. I had also tried moxibustion and a few exercises to try to get him to turn on his own, prior to the version, but I don't think we had enough time. However, we ended up needing an emergency c-section anyway, because the cord was wrapped around the baby's neck. It is unclear if the version caused this to happen, but he was also face up presentation. I guess he really wanted to come out via c-section!

I have decided that if my next baby is not head down, I'm not going to bother trying to turn him/her. We'll just do the scheduled c. I heard the recovery from a scheduled versus an emergency c is a lot quicker. My recovery was pretty awful.

Good luck.

Hi L.
My son was breech at 35 weeks. I researched the procedure used to "turn" babies and decided that the risks were too much for me. Luckily one night I was stretched out on the recliner (with my arms above my head) and BOOM he turned!! He stayed head down until delivery. My OB told me about one of his patients that did handstands in the pool and got her baby to turn the day before delivery.
Good luck and congrats on your 6th girl!!!

My mother, a labor and delivery nurse for 20 some years, recommended laying on one side, then turning to the other, just rolling over. It might help...
good luck

My daughter was frank breech with her tush planted firmly in my pelvis. I tried everything to get her to turn except a version. This included lying upside down on a slantboard, chiropractic, accupunture, yoga, visualization. Nothing worked. We had a scheduled section. I guess it was all out of my hands from the get-go as my father passed away at the same time they made the incision! I was scheduled for 9:30, he passed at 9:33 and her time of birth was 9:43. However she gets here you are blessed!! Best, H.

I had a transverse with my little girl, but ended up with a c-section. Sorry this probably doesn't help or answer your question. All that I know is that my little girl's transverse position in me really messed up my back specifically my spine and tail bone. And I see the chiropractor and take yoga now, but I really really really wished I did the yoga and chiropractor thing a whole lot earlier because my spine will never be the same again. I hope the best for you!!

I have three kids, the first was breech and the doc turned her and all went well! The labor and delivery was LONG (26 hours) and the pushing to gether out was over 3 hours, but I think that had more to do with it being my first and the fact that she was almost 9 pounds! The second baby did his job great, head first last three weeks, labor and delivery FAST! Baby #3 was breech, had him turned and all was going great, the doc induced and broke my water, but at almost 9 cm I was rushed inot OR for emergency C section, baby#3 decided that hand and cord shoud get to come out first! Not such a good idea! ANyway both times the doc turned babies, it was not comfortable but it was NOT that uncomfortable either. I prefer natural delivery and would do everything I and the doc could do to make natural a more likele possiblity. I hear that a planned C is better then and emergency C, but after two natural births and one C section I would SO WANT the natural any day and would do whatever I could to see that happen. Good luck to you and be blessed!

at 35 weeks she can still turn head down.

if you are feeling her switching sides it's a good sign, means she's still moving around, probably trying to find a nice comfy spot, which will hopefully be head down!
