Hi there, we just planned a trip to visit StoryLand with our 3.5 yr old. Does anyone have any tips for visiting the park, other area activities, dinner with a preschooler, lodging? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Hi K. - have a blast! There is a great park in the center near the Conway RR. The RR has a short train ride available, which my kids loved. There is a great sky ride at Attitash (not too far). We like the Muddy Moose for dinner but go early, they fill up! The other decent one was Up Country but, again, go early. There's a great ice cream shop across from the Red Jacket Inn. Enjoy.

Hi K.
I have tenagers now but have very very fond memories of our many trips to Storyland! It is a fun clean environment.
We stayed at Holiday inn in North Conway - clean, inexpensive and family friendly. They have a free continental breakfast.
have fun!

The Red Fox is a great place to eat with a preschooler. The have a toy room and on the weekends have movies playing and someone doing face paint. The food is really good too. It is right up the street from storyland. If you take a right out of the parking lot of storyland it is up about a mile on your left. Have a great time. We just went with our 2 girls 5 1/2 and 3 and we had a blast.

If you don't have a place to stay yet. We stayed at the Lodge at Jackson Village. Very afforardable, kid friendly, nice and clean. It is 2 miles past Storyland. Very handy location. We have stayed there both times we visited storyland.

Have a great time.

Hi!

We were just there, rented a condo on Loon Mtn (on the other side of the mountain from N. Conway). It was a rainy week and we had to keep driving over to the fun stuff. We have stayed at Nordic Village and really enjoyed the place, as well as the entertainers in the evenings (clown/magician).

One of our main things we had to do with our kids every year we've gone is make sure they're really well hydrated. They never usually get juice at home, just milk and water, but for trips like this we always provide watered-down juice so they'll really suck it down and be cool and comfy.

FYI - the Red Jacket Inn now has a Kahuna Laguna waterpark that's built right into the hotel. You can't get in to the waterpark unless you are staying there or at the Fox Ridge.

Hi Dristen,

The other responders are right. You will find there is so much to do or see you will not run out of choices.

We have two girls now ages 7 and 9 who have been going to StoryLand for many years now. There is so much to see there for the little ones. Plenty of rides, but also many attractions they can climb on touch and explore at their own pace. The one drawback I have found with StoryLand is that is tends to get very hot. Between the heat and the crowds (which are very large in the morning) the excitment can wear off very quickly. I know the best time of day for really young ones is the morning, but we also have started arriving late in the day as the crowds are thinning and spend several hours walking around enjoying the hands on attractions and maybe riding a couple of the bigger attractions. If you arrive later in the afternoon (check with Storyland to be sure of the time. I thought is was after 2PM) you can get another day free. We also go back after 2PM for our second day as we find the atmosphere more relaxing. This way we can spend our mornings swimming or a little sight seeing. We usually pack a picnic lunch and pull over at some beautiful natural attraction and enjoy the gorgeous setting of the mountains. That way we are not hungry when we get to the park (the food is usual park fare. Not too healthy, very pricey)

After the park we treat ourselves to a nice dinner. (There are dozens of great choices) and if you are staying very nearby you won't have much of a drive after your dinner. We are currently campers and we are staying at the Glen Ellis Campground. We have stayed at the Red Jacket Inn, Mountain View, and were very satisfied. As other writers have stated there are many choices for places to go and things to see. I am sure you will find some of your own favorites.

One other place which we have loved and was not mentioned is Santa's Village. A little bit of a drive, but so worth it. The atmosphere is more tranquil for the little ones. More shady and still plenty of rides for the older kids. Have a great time.

Bring drinks and snacks (can be expensive to buy there); bring rain gear (afternoon showers in summer very common but can pass quickly); there are lots of good places to stay and eat nearby in North Conway - we ate at a Fridays I think (or another chain restaurant).

We are a big fan of Storyland. I have a 6-yo and a 3.5 yo and they absolutely love Storyland and the area. To get the best bang for your buck you should purchase a ticket and enter Storyland at 3 pm then you can use that same ticket for re-entry the next day for a full day.

We stayed for many years at the Foxridge resort and now we are staying at Nordic Village. Foxridge (www.redjacketresort.com) is a hotel and Nordic Village (www.) lmgnh.comare condos w/ full kitchen.

Aside from storyland, there is Echo Lake Park where she could swim. Diana's Bath is a 0.7 miles walk into a waterfall and swimming hole area, but the water is COLD!. And at hotels, you should be able to find swimming pools either inside/outside/both. And there's always shopping at the Outlets.

Family-friendly restaurants: Our favorite and a must do for Sunday Brunch is the Red Fox Restaurant in Jackson. It is 1.75 miles beyond Storyland on Rte 16 in Jackson. Their Sunday Brunch has a large selection and very reasonably priced $7.99 for adults and $3.99 for your daughter. They have a game room for the kids to play in if there's a wait. Good dinner menu also.

Have a great time and let me know if you would like other info. We have been going there every summer and sometimes multiple times in a summer for the past 4 years and love the areas.

Hi. We visited last year when my son was 2.5. We had a blast. We stayed at a family friendly inn called the Old Field House. It's about 10 minutes from the park. Has a pool. Breakfast provided, and a big friendly dog. Reasonable priced.

If you arrive in the late afternoon to Storyland (after 3PM I think, but check to be sure) your ticket is valid another full day. We did that. It was great! Spent about 1.5 hour, got the "lay of the land" pretty much just wallking around, not really getting on rides. Then the next day got up and went to the park. We had a much better sense of what we wanted to do and were able to get right to it. Storyland is an absolutely perfect place for the toddler/preschool age.

My son is a huge fan of trains. There is a small train museum near the Old Field House INN and then of course there's the Scenic steam railroad in N. Conway. We didn't take the train, because the trips were too long for my son and I thought he'd get bored. But, we did check the schedule to see when the train was arriving at the station and we timed our visit to see the huge steam engine chug into the station and leave the station. It looked like something out of Polar Express.

HAVE A GREAT TIME!
