Can anyone recommend a great preschool in the Layton area? I am looking for something that is open extended hours (6am-6pm) and is not just a daycare (learning is a must) and small ratio would be wonderful. I would appreciate your response and/or experience so much! Thanks!

What can I do next?

have you gotten on the waiting list at the cdc? they're the number 1 cdc in the nation. the list is long. i've been on it since march, and am still waiting. they do rack and stack their order. since you both work for the AF, you may get put ahead of some others. there are also moms on base who are trained by the cdc who care for children in their home. the list of mommies is located in the cdc. (i apologize if you know all of this already.) i have lots of military friends who send their children to Educare on hill field road. i wasn't impressed, but i seem to be the only one. if you're interested in lots of learning, there are several montessori schools nearby. as a public school employee, i was surprised by how intriguing i found their process to be. (my twins are only 3, too young for that yet...at least in my mind.) good luck!

Dear A.,
Layton Christian Academy has a great preschool and extended program. The price is competitive as well. The learning programs are great, and the teachers are good. I believe the extended program is open 6am to 6pm, and it's just about 4 miles from Hill AFB on highway 193 in Layton. I helped with the extended care program at one point when my boys were in the upper grades there. Hope this helps.

I know New Discovery Montessori will be opening this fall in South Ogden/Washington Terrace area, and Evergreen Montessori is in South Ogden as well, just through the toll road from Layton, I think. Both meet most of your criteria--I'm not sure about very extended care. Would be worth an inquiry. We've had a great experience with Montessori philosophy and the classes are typically small with two teachers in the room. Good luck!

I would definitely get a hold of the office of Child Care Licensing. I have a great preschool to recommend, but it is strictly that, only have morning or afternoon sessions, not extended. If you are interested it is called Critchlow's Little Red Schoolhouse, but it is only a preschool. The best one around, in my opionion. My kids excelled beyond belief there, I was totally amazed and impressed by the curriculum and the caring teachers. I live in Layton and the school is in Uintah.
As far as the licensing, there is an office in Layton. They can tell you if a licensed preschool/day care has any complaints against it, or if they are up to code on the necessary things. What you are looking for sounds like it would fall under this more than just a preschool, which doesn't have to be licensed if they are not providing daycare.
Their number is ###-###-####. You can also call Child Care Resource and Referral, they can direct you to certain ones. They are at Weber State University I believe, not sure though. They have info as to who has food programs and other stuff.
I do know the Montessori school up on the top of Gentile in Layton is supposed to be really good, a little pricey though, and has extended hours I belive. Don't know the name of it.
Good luck, hope this helps.

Care-A-Lot in Syracuse. Their hours are 6-6. It is a day care (so pretty pricey)), but they are always doing educational activities so it is like schooling also. Last time I heard, they had a waiting list.
