But now I feel like on day 4 without and it being gone and over with....she is still having some aftermath. Did I mess up on this ?????

she has been under the care of a allergist, we have all the assention sprays, allegra, and all in her body working now for 3 months. but she cont. to keep coughing and coughing at night . she did need the antib for a broncular infection that was starting and so I am feeling guilty I may have messed up because she is not competely well.........

Missing two doses will not invalidate the course of antibiotics. Just FYI for the next time, doctors usually say that if you have any left, continue the doses until it's gone.

That said, if your daughter isn't better - you need to call the doctor and make an appointment to see if she needs a second course of antibiotics. Or something else.

Take her back to the dr. only they can tell if the cough is from Post nasal drip (due to allergies) or if it is in the broncular tube with an infection.

Honey- Get local honey from the farmers markets. 1 teaspoon a day can help her body get the immunities it needs to help with seasonal allergies.

Aslo, Honey before bed 1-2 spoonfulls will coat the throat. If it is post nasal drip it will help with the cough.

What is her diet like? Does she get home made soups with garlic and onion cooked in it? if not Try some that will help boost her immunity.
'How much milk is she getting? It could be helping the cough get worse not better. How much fresh fruit does she get? Does she eat yogurt? How much rest does she get? All this can help build her immunitys.

Also, my son had seasonal allergies. He had ezecema when he was a baby. We went Gluten Free in Nov for him and since then it seems to me his seasonal allergies have lessoned or disapeared.

We also have a hepi air purifier ($450.00) from an allergy store. We keep it in the kids room. It makes a huge difference. The cost, is worth it to us.
Before bed, we rinse him off. and change clothes to remove the pollen that has fallen on him from playing outside. That can also help with allergies.

As far as the antibiotics.. Missing two doses.. next time keep going until you have done the full time, but it should not make that much difference. I doubt that it is why she is coughing.

Good luck

Missing 2 doses is not a big deal and won't make the rest of what you gave her not work. Does the cough sound different from the bronchitis? A broncial cough is deep and heavy and you can really hear and feel it coming from the chest. A post-nasal drip cough is lighter, drier, quieter and feels like a tickle in the upper chest/lower throat vs a deep lung cough.

When my kids have a lingering cough, the first thing the nurses suggest when I call the pediatrician's office is to give benadryl to "dry up" what they say is post-nasal drip. It works well for us. A cough at night sounds like post-nasal drip to me (as she is laying down, the mucous in her sinuses drains into the back of the throat and you cough it out). Call your pediatrician's office and see what they recommend - with her being on other medication I wouldn't just try benadryl without checking first to make sure it doesn't interfere with something else she's taking.

It could be that the infection just didn't respond to that antibiotic and she needs another kind. However, in the future, you should finish all the medication/doses prescribed, not just the number of days. If you miss one, just give an additional dose at the end. When we get a prescription, I write on the bottle numbers for each day needed, then put a line through that number after each dose given that day. That way, I can just look at each number to make sure it has the right amount of lines through it to check if we missed a dose, and can make them up at the end.

Why did you throw away what was left? You're supposed to finish the medication until it's completely gone unless the doctor has told you the meds will spoil and need to be thrown away.

Depending on how far out it has been since the last day she took the meds, you have to give some time for them to continue to work. The antibiotics are still in her system and working for three days after she stops taking the meds. If you think the symptoms are worsening then you need to take her back to the doctor to be seen.

I doubt that's why she's still coughing. Try not to beat yourself up about it. That shouldn't matter to this level - and what's your option? Other 14 days???

Sounds like there is a lot more going on, either from a compromised immune system, or from the complications of allergies (which also have an auto-immune component). If the drugs aren't working, would you consider strengthening her immune system? You're treating the symptoms and not the underlying cause. I'm off allergy meds after many years, and no one in my family has had a "sick visit" in years. So it can be done, simply.
