Does anyone take Celexa for anxiety? Does it work, any side effects? Does anyone have any other anti anxiety meds that work well for them.

I'm taking Zoloft for my anxiety issues and it's working very well for me, along with monthly visits to my therapist. I have not experienced any side effects. Also, I just had my second child and was able to be on Zoloft during my pregnancy and while breastfeeding.

My ex-husband was on it. He went psycho while on it. He calmed down once he was off of it.

There are many natural ways to calm anxiety without resorting to psychotropic drugs, which mask the symptoms and don't handle the root of the problem.

Hi K.! I was put on Cymbalta for depression and post partum and also on Seroquel (sp??) for anti anxiety and sleeping issues. I really would advise to not get on Cymbalta. I have been on it for two years now and am having the hardest time getting off the medication. My psychologist has put me on Prozac as well now to try to eliminate the withdrawl effects from Cymbalta. He even told me this evening that the side effects can be so bad that you can wind up in the hospital. I would also advise to ask about the pros and cons of each medication before you start taking anything. Ask about the withdrawl effects too.

See a psychiatrist about your anxiety to discuss how you feel and what kind of meds you can take. They are the pros on these issues. Be careful about anti-anxiety drugs they are benzodiazapenes, which are highly addictive. If you run out you start to panic and your anxiety goes sky high. It would then take some work to get off them. An antidepressant that treats anxiety would be the better route, it'll stop your feelings of being overwhelmed and anxious. My advise would be to look into professional help because YOUR well being will benefit you and your family now and in the long run.

I agree to be careful on the meds. Definitely go to a psychiatrist if you are able. They have a wider knowledge of meds....Zoloft can increase depression if you are prone to it. I don't have a lot of experience with celexa specifically.

My daughter was on Strattera (yes-ADHD med) for Anxiety. It's not a stimulant so it slowed her brain enough to decrease her anxiety. It worked for us!! (and was non-addictive.) It has a longer half-life though so takes longer to build up and to come back off...

celexa is NOT a benzo, benzos are things like xanax and valium and those are highly addictive

I take Celexa for anxiety and depression and I do have to say it helps when I am mildly anxious, but when I need something more I take a Xanax. I have been told that Xanax is highly addictive, but I only take it as needed (usually 1x a week). I was on Lexapro for anxiety/depression and I feel the Celexa works better.
