Almost 2 - Cutting Teeth?

My daughter will be 2 at the beginning of May. I know that kids cut second molars around age 2 but am not sure of the symptoms she is having. For the most part she is a happy, playful child. Yesterday and today she has spiked a fever between 101.3-102.0 about 1 hour before lunch time. I have checked for teeth and cannot feel anything. She is not drooling and is eating/drinking/acting fine. After a dose of Motrin her temperature returns to normal. She has absolutely no other symptoms....no coughing/sneezing/tummy upset/ congestion. I haven't made an appointment with her Doctor because the fever has gone away. She never ran a fever or was grumpy when she was cutting teeth as an infant. Any suggestions? Have your kids had this when they were teething? Can make a Doctor's appointment for Saturday morning if I need to.

What can I do next?

102 is high for just teeth you may want to consider at least calling the doctor tomorrow and see what they say.

If she is still running a fever tomorrow I would see a doctor. It may not be anything to worry about and then again it might.

I remember my daughter at about the same age running a 101-103 fever for 2 days and on the third day I took her to the pediatrician. I did not get to see a doctor but instead a nurse practitioner (he had been a Dr. in England before moving to the States, but had difficulty getting license here). He checked her thoroughly and seemed confused because there were no other symptoms. I remember he sitting in the room with us just thinking after cultures and listening to her breath and looking in her mouth, nose and ears several times. He said he felt there was a reason for the fever, but he just could not put his finger on it. He finally went out of the room and told me to he would be back. When he came back, he said, I want to do a chest x-ray. We did one and found pneumonia. I was so surprised since she had not been congested or wheezy or anything. He told me that when there are no symptoms present for pneumonia but and x-ray shows it they call it Walking pneumonia. I have had pneumonia before, my sister has had it, and my middle son has had it. I remember we were sick, bad sick. My middle son was actually admitted into the hospital because the congestion was so bad that he could not breath and his lungs were full of mucus. Pneumonia without the mucus was a shock to me.

Type B flu is going around in Oklahoma and Mo. It is basically a fever of unknown origin at first and the flu swab may be negative early on then the fever progresses to get higher and then the flu swab will be positive.

Lots of fluids and rest.

But never take the advice of others when you think the child may need medical care, it may be something else. A doc will look in the ears and throat, it could be strep or something else and blood test will show if there is an infection.

That fever seems high for teething. My son had a fever like that for 3-4 days and then his eardrum burst! I had no idea it was an ear infection because he had no runny nose and at 18 months he could not tell me what was wrong. I'd call or see the doctor.
