Hi,
I too had the unfortunate experience of having pupp with my pregnancy. The itchiness almost drove me insane.
I now get more cold sores than I have ever gotten, but I use Abreva and it works wonders. Also, a bit of Tea tree oil might help. Good luck

Just one more thing to add- also be careful about kissing baby if s/he has an open sore. My daughter had a head wound from all the pushing against my pelvis. She caught the herpes virus right there on her head and it was very serious. We spent over a week in NICU and then another week a few days later. More moms should know about this...you have to be watchful of friends and family who may have the virus, too.

J.,
I think we are in agreement that cold sores are not an allergic reation. Your body is undergoing a lot of stress and changes while pregnant. I just got over a cold sore a couple of months ago due to a small cut on my mouth which activated the virus, which lies dormant once contracted. Anything can bring about an outbreak. I don't think you'll constantly have them during your pregnancy, and it is painful. There is medication now to lesson the duration of the outbreak, you should consult your doctor.
Best Wishes

Hi! I'm N. i didnt get cold sores with my first but i did get a bump kinda like a pimple in the middle of my chest that would hurt and didnt go away until recentley and shes two. Now that i am pregnant again 6wks its coming back... Dr. says some people just get certain reactions but they will always go away. I would just encourage you to try not to quite your job over it. Nobody cares and just be strong for both your baby. Best of luck. Congrats on your new baby.

Yes, I got this nasty rash under my boobs with the 1st one. Then with #2 ,I got this horrible rash around my nose that looked like I had a severe, it was raw and hurt. Then with #3 I got the same rash as I did with 1st one except this time in was on my inner thighs.

I got them with my first child. The doctor was able to give me something that cleared it up and perfectly healthy to take while pregnant. He said that it has to with your hormones and such all being out of wack. Your body sometimes produces more of certain things than others. I was told that a lot of women get them when they are pregnant. I would just ask your doctor about it next time you go in for a check up.

Hi, when I was pregnant with my triplets I got Pupps right at the end of my pregnancy and then it continued until the babies were about a month old. It was AWFUL....itching, itching. The rash really wasn't like a cold sore though. Hopefully, you're just having a cold sore and it will go away. Did your rash with your first baby happen during your whole pregnancy or just toward the end? Hope you get some relief soon!!
Congrats on your pregnancy.

Hi J.,
Congrads on your pregnancy. I really don't know anything about puppps, but I did some research on the net. One thing that you will be happy with.... it ususally only occurs during the first pregnancy not w/ susequent pregnancies.

Now about the cold sore..... unless you have type 2 herpes (vaginal) you probably have nothing to worry about. The virus she was talking about is the herpes virus. There are about 8 different strains. If you have vaginal herpes, than you should deliver the baby by c-section. Other than that, just don't kiss your newborn on the lips, after you deliver. This could cause a transmission of the virus, which can be deadly for infants under 9 months of age.....thus the c-section.

I feel for you because I suffered from urticaria for over 4 years. It was nerves, it was allergies, it was an autoimmune thing, my clothes were too tight, I exercised too hard (HA!)The sun caused it. Never really got any true answers. However, fexofenadine or allegra 180 was the only medication that keeps my hives at bay. I now only suffer from them when I am sick, or surgery, the flu, you know when my body is under extra stress. This is also a cause and effect for the cold sores.
Good luck! You may want to check w/ OBGYN if allegra is safe to take w/ pregnancy. Though your hives should not reappear, atleast if they do, then maybe the allegra will help you too. Never take anything during pregnancy w/out checking w/ OBGYN first.

Good Luck!

I have not experienced what you have, but as someone has already mentioned, cold sores are not caused by any allergies.

cold sores do come from a herpes virus. And just because you have cold sores, does not mean you have type 2 herpes. They are different strains. If you have any symptoms of vaginal herpes you need to be sure your dr knows.
One thing I will disagree with, if you work with your dr on it, you do not have to have a c-section to deliver your baby.
I am not saying you have that, jsut clarifing.

And cold sores are annoying and can be miserable, but dont alnoe cause complications in pregnanct

I don't think cold sores are caused by allergic reactions. They are due to exposure to a certain type of virus, I forget which one. I think it may be harmful to your baby, but I'm not sure. You should call your doctor.

I as well had cold sore while preg. with my first son. All you need to do is use Campho-Phenique(located were you find the dental floss) and for swelling use an Ibuprofen but check with your dr. for use of the Ibuprofen. The cold sore will dry up it a day or two. The scab a couple more days.I never had to take time off from my retail job because of it. Just hang in there. Its not so bad. With the cold weather, I just got one. It happens when your emune(?)system is down. Also don't kiss with it or use the same towel as a family member. Try not spread it. The bubbles are very contagous. Wouldn't want to give it to a family member. As you know, they a no fun.
Hang in there!!!
