Aldi is the same company as Trader Joe's so if your familiar with them then some of the stuff at aldi's is the same. aldi's is great. I go about once or twice a month and stock up on stuff like pastas canned goods, milk, bread and loads of fresh fruits and veggies. I buy the frozen chicken breasts both the boneless skinless and also the tenderloins. I can get out of aldi's for about half what it costs at someplace like jewel. it is even a cheaper than walmart at least here in illinois it is. you do have to either bring your own bags or purchase paperbags that they sell. the paperbags are like a nickle each. you have to put a quarter into the cart to get it out of the pack and use it but it gives you the quarter back when you return it. thats a good thing becuase it makes sure there are not a lot of carts floating around the parking lot banging into cars.

I went to the one off Harwood and Precinct Line for the grand opening a few months ago. I had just gone grocery shopping at Wal-mart a couple days before, so I didn't really need much. I did notice they had lower prices on several items though and was happy with the things I did buy.

You do have to insert a quarter to use a cart and you do need to bring your own bags or pay 5-10 cents for the bags they have there (the price depends on the bag you choose). You also have to pay for your groceries with cash or debit card only.

The thing I liked best, besides the prices, was I went through the entire store in a snap. It's smaller and so it doesn't take an hour or more to do your grocery shopping. The thing I didn't like was they don't carry 1% milk, which is the one we like the best.

I would recommend it for anyone who needs to save money on their groceries, isn't brand particular since they carry their own store brands, and likes getting their shopping done quick. Oh, it's also good for those of us not wanting to throw all our money at the gargantuan retailers (i.e., Wal-mart) all the time so as to keep competition going. I did notice several prices went down at Wal-mart right after the Aldi opened (e.g., cream cheese - was $1.66 at WM; Aldi - $0.89; WM after Aldi - $0.50; milk - was $2.29 at WM; Aldi - less than $2; WM after Aldi - $1.79).

Blessings,
N. :-)

I typically don't find that Aldi is any cheaper than other grocery stores, and the added inconvenience of bringing enough of your own bags for a full shopping trip puts me off. But occasionally they do have some great sales. Check out www.dealseekingmom.com; she posts deals of the week for aldi stores. The prices are somewhat regional but it will give you an idea of what to expect.

I love Aldi for the past 20 years. They are everywhere by me. They also own Trader Joe's.

We have several stores here in Michigan. They are great for stuff like condiments, milk, canned fruits/vegetables, cereals, butter, etc. If you have a large family, you can save a bundle. They save on overhead too, so no fancy signs or ads, you also have to bag your own groceries and put your cart back so that is why you pay the quarter to use a cart. They sell their own brand of items which are comparable to the national brands. For meats and bakery items though, I prefer the independent supermarkets.

Aldi's is an awesome store. We've had them in IL for my whole life. Their prices now are fairly comparable to a sale price at another store, but you can go whenever. You have to bring your own bags or buy them for 5-10 cents each. They are a very BASIC store so you will have to supplement at other stores for some stuff. They have their own brands and their Fit & Active line is a good health food line. Definitely worth checking it out.

I love Aldi. Yes most things are under their own name BUT a lot are made by top brands if you research online you will see. Not eveything that has a generic label is generic made!

I go to the one in Keller. Pineapples are 99cents as well as strawberries. Grapes were 1.49. Bread is 74cents. Milk is 1.79 and eggs are 78 cents. It should be the same at the Euless one. OOOH and if you neat ham right now this week spiral, butt and shank ham is $5 off price listed. I got 2 spiral hams for $4. So $10 bucks off!

Fit and Active brand is great there! You just need to check it out and form your own opionion. Yes if you don't have your own bags you have to get theirs. It is 6cents for paper or 10 for plastic BUT their plastic bags ROCK. They are not like walmart. They are HEAVY duty. I buy them cause I like them.

Bring a quarter yes and you have to bag your own groceries. Really not hat that big of a deal. They pay their employees 10-13 an hour so they can have quality ppl work there. Don't have to worry about carts in the parking lot cause ppl want their quarter. They are always stocking food which means everything is FRESH. I would rather have 78 cent eggs and 1.79 milk then higher prices and have someone pick up my cart from the parking lot.

To the moms below. YES Market street is great BUT most ppl don't live near one. The only one in our area is in Colleyville and that can take 30 min to get to. Not worth the drive to Pay much more. Yes good stuff but not worth it if you are not in the area. I DO though try to go to Sprouts every Wed or at least every other for double add day. Their produce does rock!

But I like that you can be in and out of Aldi in 30 min or less and their produce is good and cheap. Special buys don't last long so get them if you see them and like them.

Hi G.,

We have a wonderful farmer's market here in Atlanta so I get organic produce cheap. That being said, I don't know about their produce but in general their quality is so much better than a lot of stores. The prices are comparable to Walmart but the food is soooo much better. I don't eat a lot of canned goods but the ones I do get from there actually taste good. Their meats are priced reasonably as well. Their crackers, cookies and cereals are a lot cheaper and their condiments are a good quality. They carry a line of salad dressings that are to die for. There's not a big selection so you can't get many specialty items. If you see a specialty item at a good price buy it then because it may not be there next week. I had no idea they were affiliated with Trader Joe's until I read someone else's post. That would explain the quality....

Don't forget your quarter and your debit card!

Aldi has been in CT for years. I've shopped there a few times.

A few things to know...
bring a quarter with you, you'll need it to get a shopping cart, when you return the cart, you get the quarter back
bring your own bags
the store is kind of set up like a warehouse store, where many items are in boxes rather than neatly stocked on a shelf
they tend to carry a lot of "generic" brands,

You should check out the store.

I've been to the new Aldi in Frisco. You have to bring a a quarter with you to "unlock" a shopping cart. But you get your quarter back when you return the cart. And bring your own bags to pack your purchases at the checkout. It seams clean and reasonable prices.

Most everything is their own brand, but they do carry a few name brand things. It's my understanding that those name brands can change every week. It's whatever was available on the market is the brand they bring in. So for example they will always have chicken breasts, but not always Purdue brand, that kind of thing.

The fruits/veg and meats all looked good and good prices.

So as long as it's not out of your way, I'd go in and shop.

I love, Love, LOVE ALDI! I can't imagine anyone not being able to see the massive differences in price! The produce prices cannot be beat (Ex. We have Dole fresh pineapples for 1.99 every day vs. 4.99 at out larger monopoly store.)
Yes..you need to use a quarter to get a cart, buy or take your own bags (you get the quarter back when you take your cart back, so no biggie!) but the result is lower food costs in a BIG way!
Yes...duh...the brands are ALDI's brands because that's the idea!
Go with an open mind and bring your bags and a quarter. I'll bet you'll become a fan!

I'd check it out. Like TF in Plano, I was not impressed (I'm also a Market Street fan). Did not know about the cart deal so started off wrong by having to search in purse for quarter. I did not have a lot of time to check it out. I bought milk (kids said ok- but hard to beat Braums) and a few other items. Did not look much at produce but have heard that is really good pricing (but I like Sprouts for produce). But check it out - just be sure and take a quarter and have your debit card - I was not sure if they took checks and don't believe took credit.

We have a few in my area they are fairly new to Minnesota. I do go there from time to time because they are things that I know they always have like pineapples are always really cheap. There have inexspesive produce( zuchinni, avocados, asparagus, green pepper, bananas). I always go there several times during the holidays for baking stuff ei flour, sugar, choc , peanut butter and butterscoth chips, nuts, almond bark , marshmallows, condensed milk and butter is way cheap! It's worth checking out, its kinda hit or miss like Tj Max or Marshalls for me, depends on the day. They do sometimes have name brand items?

They're all over Atlanta now. They give DEEP discounts, but you don't have to buy enormous sizes like at Costco or Sam's. You pay a quarter for a cart or take your own enviro bags and they have THEIR brands of food. The one by us has really nice produce. It's pretty cheap! Definitely worth going for some things, although you won't get name-brand stuff like Coke, but really good buys. I've bought appetizers for parties there, and they were good.

I checked out the one in Plano and I was not impressed. You do have to deposit a quarter for the cart, which you get back, I understand there is an upcharge if you don't bring your own bags, they don't take checks, just debit cards and cash (my understanding).

As for the items.... I am very brand loyal and most everything was the Aldi brand. There were some cheap deals but I am not one to go cheap, especially on our food. I am also anti Walmart and will not step foot in a Walmart or Sams. That's just me.... I know a lot of people love them and that's ok.

I go to Market Street in Allen for fresh produce, good quality items. I'm ar Market Street almost daily for a fresh lunch and picking up something. We LOVE that store. I go to Costco for the stock up items and Hirsch's Meats for all beef, pork, etc. Gary Hirsch has THE highest quality beef you can get....AWESOME.

If Aldi is not TOO far from you, just check it out. You might like it.

I just went yesterday to check out the one near me that is opening today. It looks pretty good but I didn't see much difference in price vs. Wal-Mart's store brand and even some name brands. Some stuff was cheaper (eggs, milk, some cereal, spagetti sauce) other stuff wasn't any difference. I will probably try it a time or 2 to see if I can save any money and see how I like their stuff. If I don't see a big difference, I'll keep on shopping where I've been. But it seems like it's worth a try for you though.
