I have an almost 4 yr old and he gets very car sick when we go out and we're driving for more than 10 min. I have tried the kids Dramamine, but all that does is knock him out and then he's out for like 2 hrs. It would be fine if we were going places that were two hours away, but that's not the case. The furthest we go is maybe 1 hr. any suggestions would help. Thanks.

What can I do next?

I also suffer from motion sickness. It has gotten better, but I still have it. Try to crack the window in the backseat. Have him take off his coat and keep the heat down. No reading or playing video games in the car either. Avoid jerking to a stop and gunning the vehicle when you take off. Also watch out for curvy roads. I know these are all things that help me. Also, could he sit in the middle in the backseat? It may help to be able to see out the front window. I'm not a doctor, or a motion sickness expert, I can only pass along what helps for me. I hope some of the tips work for you and your little guy.

My step-daughter uses a wristband, and she says it really helps. We found it at the pharmacy. Here is an article with lots of tips for preventing motion sickness. Hope it helps!

I will be 40yo next week and have suffered motion sickness all my life. Even today, I know not to ever sit in the back seat b/c within minutes I will be getting sick. I have gotten sick in or on just about anything that moves, planes, rides, even watching some movies will make me sick. Like the roller coaster thing at the beginning of theater movies, CANNOT WATCH IT, I have to cover my face.

I now have a daughter who has it.
1) Roll down their window immediately
2) have them remove any coat/jacket immediately
3) if they do not feel better within secs, stop for about 5 mins or if possible put them in the front seat. (she can got from fine to vomiting within about 1 min)

For trips, I would talk to your DR about motion sickness meds for kids.
Hope he grows out of it b/c it is no fun!

Hi M.: Make sure he is not reading anything during the drive-I get motion sickness as well if I read a book or magazine the wrist band the other girl mentioned may help it helped me somewhat. Also, I think it has something to do with looking at the horizon while in the back seat but I can not remember whether it was good or bad to do so sorry i could not give some more useful info on this one.

Both of my kids do this too. I dont keep books in the car anymore. Dont let him read in the car, crack the window intermittingly (sp?). Also instead of a whole dramamine try half or even 1/4 pill. Also we just keep the proper "equipment" (bucket, wipes, water) in the car at all time just in case something should happen.
Good luck, I know its not fun.
