I agree that a lot of these disorders/issues can have confusing or similar symptoms. Some people have depression with or without anxiety, some people's panic attacks can keep them from focusing and thus mimic ADD, or the anxiety can make people hyper which seems like ADHD. Some people have ADD/ADHD, and then get anxious from it. So it's a cycle.

I've suffered from depression but without the anxiety, and I had a lot of trouble focusing and completing tasks. That's in addition, of course, to the sadness and the lack of energy. It affected my social relationships and my work. I couldn't get stuff done - so it might have appeared as ADD to others. A friend of mine had depression with anxiety, another woman I know had panic attacks, and still another had adult ADD. I know two men who had ADD from their early teens on into adulthood. We've all used a variety of techniques, from therapy to medication. At present we are all doing much better and most of us are medication-free because we found nutritional solutions to our issues. The tremendous increase in the various disorders mentioned in your post and in some of the responses (and all over Mamapedia too) are most often related to chemical imbalances that are linked to our decreased diets. Despite the existence of so many foods year-round, they are depleted of nutrients. There is a huge health crisis because of it.

You can certainly see a psychiatrist and try to get a better diagnosis and try medications. It may take a while because it's not always clear when there are two conditions going on at the same time, and the medications are just treating the symptoms and it's often trial and error. You could also try something more natural and see if that helps. I would be happy to share my experiences with you if you are interested.

Hello,
I don't have it but my husband does, he's had it since he was a child though. He was diagnosed when he was a teenager.
He faces many challenges (mind that at times he acts a bit bipolar) dificulties at work and with our family:
- uneasy to stay still
- can't concentrate and has difficulties finishing a job
- gets distracted super easy
- not able to sleep well
- mind doesn't stop unless he is doing an activity like watch tv or playing ps3
- irritable
- plays loud and rough (I have to remind him about our children being small and having to be gentle)
- hard time concentrating
- if something doesn't interest him he wanders and "checks out" easily

hope this helps, you might want to talk to your doctor, he/ she can refer you to a psiquiatrist who will diagnose you (my husband was re-diagnosed 3 years ago by a siquiatrist sp?)

Very often, those struggling with anxiety disorder experience the symptoms of ad/hd. There is information on both of these disorders and effective treatment options without medications on our website - http://brainandwellnessinstitute.com
We are currently treating a number of clients, both adults and children, who are dealing with ad/hd symptoms and anxiety issues. With treatment, symptoms of both disorders are greatly reduced or eliminated!

Going along w/what Karen mentioned, bipolar & adhd run pretty close in things - if u have ever been treated for depression it is a good idea to speak w/a psychiatrist. I would speak w/one regardless b/c so many times our primary care dr's try to help out in this area, but it's a pretty complex area. There are a lot of similarities but if you are put on a medication for adhd and it turns out you are bipolar it can spin you to either the depressed or manic state. I was diagnosed bipolar 18 yrs ago & they had me on an anti-depressant for a yr which helped my depression but then i hit the other end & i hit it hard. Best of luck to you.
