O.O.
Yes they will do O. piece at an embroidery shop.
BUT you might have to end up replacing the fabric piece because the fabric used will have to be large enough to fit an embroidery hoop, KWIM?
Ok, full disclosure here. I am terrible with a needle and thread. Fabric departments scare me. I can cook anything, and if given the choice between having to cook a dinner for 30 people vs sew on one button, I'd choose the dinner.
So, my son has a leather jacket. It has epaulets on the shoulders, and one of them has a fabric piece that slides onto the epaulet. The fabric piece is in a continuous loop and it has a small leather strip on it. This jacket is kind of a vintage piece, and it was originally a military jacket, but not US forces. It was a European jacket, and there are no markings of any kind on it. It's just a really great jacket.
I want to have his name embroidered on the fabric piece, so he can slide it onto the epaulet. If I called an embroidery shop, would they do one small piece? The leather strip is small. It's about 3/4 inch wide by 2 1/2 inches long, so the writing would be small. Can this be done? I looked at a couple of shops and they all say they can produce your logo and embroider a hundred ball caps, etc. Would they do one piece?
Or is there another way I can get his name on this leather strip? Gold lettering? Stamped? The fabric loop has a seam on the underside and it could be taken apart for the embroidery process and then re-stitched. I couldn't do that, I don't have a sewing machine.
I just don't know what I'm asking of a shop, or if they'll do one little job, or if this is even possible (to embroider on leather). If any of you ladies do this as a job, feel free to pm me! Or if you can tell me what to ask, or if this is feasible, please give me advice.
Thanks, everyone, for the suggestions.
Reverend Ruby, I should have mentioned that my son is 27 years old, 6'3", and a professional audio engineer, so I'm not too concerned about the identification/kidnapping issue. I was careful to avoid labeling their backpacks, etc, when they were little, so you brought up a good reminder.
Here's a photo of a similar jacket: https://www.lakelandleather.co.uk/Military-Inspired-Leath...
With military jackets, the shoulder epaulets have a button on one side. That way, the military member does not need to purchase a new jacket when they are promoted. They simply slide the old stripes off and slide the new stripes on. So it's very similar to a US military shoulder epaulet, only this one not only has stripes, but a leather patch for the person's name or initials.
I'm going to call some embroidery shops!

What they should do is get a larger piece of fabric and then they put that selection into their hoop. Then they select the font and size. When they've got it all threaded and ready they push a button and it starts and continues until it's finished. Then you can get the piece cut to fit and you can put it in, BUT I'd likely ask them to do it for me so they can glue it or affix it to the base in some way. This way when it's moved in to place it won't roll up or be messy.
If you can find an image of something similar on google it would help us to understand what you're saying.
Not an actual photo of your jacket but a search image of a jacket like it that's from the internet. Then we can click on that link and see what you're meaning.
Just put the link in the SWH.
I would go to or call a fabric and craft shop and ask if they have a list of crafters you can hire.
I have to ask though why do you want his name on the jacket? When my kids were little we were told not to have the child's name on his clothes. A child predator would be able to call the child by name making the child think he knows him or his parents. It was another way for a predator to convince a child to go with him.
I'd Google embroidery shops in your area..not the wholesale kind.
While you did an excellent job 'painting the picture' of what you're looking for, I still don't have a good picture of it in my minds eye. Could you Google an image on the internet or Pinterest so that you can present it to the embroidered so that it turns out exactly the way you want?
Check with the high school athletic department.
Around here, we have a place called Texas Two Stitch and they manage the orders for the Varsity Athletic jackets for students. Our daughter's varsity cheer jacket is embroidered and has special patches on the sleeves.
This store also does other work and we've used them for embroidery for cheer gifts, personal gifts and more.
I'm sure Austin has some store similar to this that manages the Varsity jackets. Just a thought! Good luck!
when i was in a similar situation i jangled my network and found a homeschool mom in the area who was a whiz with embroidery and paid her to do it.
